£10k Bonus Race. G as it had been two days prior. 2mm of rain overnight and light rain clearing before afternoon forecast. Going Stick reading from 09:00am. Stiff SW Wind = Three-Quarter Headwind from the Left. Hannon website pre-race = "Lyric Ace scoped bad after disappointing at Royal Ascot, but he then ran well in the Super Sprint at Newbury considering the ground and draw were against him, while Dominate won an above-average maiden at Sandown last time and is all speed, so should be suited by this track" Hannon Jockeys = Hughes (MW), Moore (RB), Dobbs (WR) & Levey (KC). Possible Stands' Rail bias on day with both juvenile winners running the rail and prominent. If a bias perhaps not much more than a narrow rail strip in the last 2F. Centre Group of Six in first half of race and they did well overall and the horses running the rail behind Blessington not running well. Seems more likely to be a pace bias for the winner. Vallarta a positive on his gallops on July 24th (Cay Verde & Pay Freeze, less zippy than CV but sticking with them ok) and 20th July (CVerde & Strong Conviction, with SC looking a bit more organised working in blinkers). 50/1 just an indication of the Market knowing nothing and Vallarta high up on profile. Garswood another hyped up Fahey type not really delivering. He had Warcrown as the hyped favourite in this race in 2011 on debut. Two unplaced runs for Warcrown at 2yo and has won a maiden on his 5th career run at 3yo with an OR of 75 on him. What was the hype about? Bell website on Huntsmans Close post race = "Sadly at Goodwood HUNTSMANS CLOSE failed to shine and produce the effort we know he is capable of. He was keen at Yarmouth on his first start over seven furlongs and proved just as keen on this drop back in trip and found little when switched all the way to the centre of the field. He is definitely a talent, but just needs to learn to settle." [PRIng Video shows him OT and Swtg and somewhere between 'Coil' and Losing It. Focus not really there in PRIng although not over-reacting. Bigger type, with length, and strong and believable as OR85+]. George Baker before the race = "Nenge Mboko and Sutton Sid in the maiden. Two lovely horses. Two horses with a future, whatever happens in this race.." and after the race. = "Nenge Mboko, Sutton Sid and Red Four running respectably in their maidens. All will be winning....". All feels a bit like getting your excuses in early. How is finishing well back in the ruck and losing places in the second half of the race 'respectable'. Bit more delivery and a lot less talk required. |
