GF going produced by watering and GFF in previous weeks with warm & dry weather. 5mm applied to the straight on each of the preceding 5 days. Light Breeze probably as a half tailwind from the left but direction due to circle more towards NE & E during the afternoon. Slower time than any at the course in 2010-11 and unusual mix of closers and prominent runners together at the finish. Worth noting the times across all races on the day suggested the watering had got in well and this nt a fast 'GF' on a course which can produce concrete that gets called GFF. Race driven along by another Bill Turner 2yo who did not see the 5f out like his Brocklesby entrant. Note that CN unseated the jockey when going out on the course. Stood still and allowed himself to be caught. Taken down alone and slowly by winded jockey after that. But, kept stopping and baulking and half turning back. Similar caution and mild spookiness from the horse when offered to the stalls. Not overly concerned nor wound-up but just thinking a bit too much. Got on with it fine when asked to race in the lead. Field raced centre track. Strong or Stiff pace with first four at halfway within 1L of each other and the rest of the field struggling to go the pace. MDream 5th at 4L back, AFCoat at 5L and driven along as was OOTB at 6.5L with Amourous just behind and ZRated adrift. One of the questions before the race was whether the earlier date would change the quality. Given the time of the race it has probably made the performance on the day worse. Further, the second was seller entered (perhaps an effort to get a longer price) and looked small & limited and OOTB has been entered for a class 5 seller at EDIN. The winner a cheap filly but some very good 'Nodding' from her in the the leading line but unlikely to be better than OR60s. Any better 'quality' perhaps depends on how the Stubbs & Easterby runners can develop. Better vibe over Midnight Dream as a bit more substance and, typically for a Stubbs, fizzy and free-running in the race and started hanging left early. In a very suspect race probably the one not to give up on being a real OR70+ just yet. CNapping bigger than Severn Bore who won the following seller for Turner and the same jockey who perhaps learnt a bit about what pace to set in this race for that one. But, would presume CN is a bit better than SBore so ought to be up to winning a seller or claimer. Worth at least recording the strips of the track that the horses ran on. Looking at the finishes of the races on the course on the day you could propose an idea that racing Centre and further out saw more strong finishers than on the stands' side. Despite being drawn furthest over CN & LCountess both finished close to the stands' side along with the others from the leading line who all rolled right when tiring. The 2nd & 3rd who had been outpaced for various reasons then closed up to the faders in centre track and ZRated got from being adrift into the back of the group on the same strip. BCandle raced furthest Stands' side throughout and faded worst. OOTB called 'straightforward by Dascombe but appeared green and wary. Looked to be moving a bit awkwardly at times and hanging a bit left and not really going forward. Jockey felt need to use whip at halfway because of this. Trundled through late into the faders without really going forward smoothly. Physical or mental greenery? Pre-Race Questions Doc.
