£10k Bonus Race. 1mm of rain overnight & Going Stick reading from 07:30am. Stiff to Strong NE Wind = Half Tailwind from the Right. Slow Time compared to preceding Class 6 race won in 2.03s faster by an OR52 rated 3yo carrying 8lbs leas. Race played out as if the pace was too fast with the pressing line of 3 in the lead breaking up early. 3 of first 4 home were the 3 in the 2R more than 2L back and missing the strongest of the early pace. But even they had the deep closers getting to them at the finish and not really seeing the race out fully. Hototo hampered on the rail after 1F and dropped last and probably 10L back and beaten less than 1L. Some effect in later race of the hampering and delay caused by the 2R & closers trying to work through the fading leaders. A race to be a little wary of given that the pace being too strong meant that most of the field got involved in some way and could be said to sho some 'promise'. But a slow time and moderate from overall which means looking for real 'promise', certainly at Open Maiden level is more difficult. A £10 Bonus race with many of the 'Right' northern trainers involved but how many of these are going to win during the season? Half would be a good return. General feeling that if you ran this race a couple more times with different paces you would get different results and you could make the outcome more variable by fiddling with the draw. So, not a clean race with an obvious Cahngeover Point. Tatlisu a typical FTO win for Trainer and Owners without being fully competent. Jockey Hanagan won both 2yo races at the meeting by sitting off the pace and then finding, or manufacturing a gap to make progress past the faders in later race. The sort of quiet efficiency that makes you a champion without looking spectacular. Fahey debut winners often prove to be Listed+ class or late OR80s handicappers, at least. This one seems to have medium scope and perhaps lower end OR80s at best. Trainer Bryan Smart often gets debut wins with his better and/or natural ones in May and this course one he often uses. Had a poor start in 2011 so that did not show up. With Rhagori Aur an NR in the Apr 7th £10k bonus race here this was his first runner of the season. Trainer interviewed before the race and said a lot of words that meant nothing. 'Nice little horse' and 'Not setting any Hedges on fore' were as much as he felt able to vouchsafe. Slow start then seemed to travel close to best in the race and around 2L off the stiff pace. Cruised into the lead via centre track before having to make his effort and still 1.5L clear towards the last half furlong but then fading late on & caught. Probably another that can rate into the OR80s and Open Maiden class but perhaps without being able to go further unless his cruising speed (as opoosed to late race effort) makes a difference. The run by Hotot an indication of the race being a little baffling to unpick. A little bit of support but from a long SP and not suggesting trainer Ryan thinks he is a better one. Small and heavy and a development type probably. Cut up on the rail afer 1F and dropped to last. Made ground in centre track before 2F out and then still plugging on to be involved at the finish with the fading 2Rs. Given he is going to be 'Eyecatching' in all sorts of notebooks probably one to see how he goes NTO and see how the form quality workd ou. Prefer to follow the first two home. Similar feeling with Blue Lotus that he just did what you would expect in staying on into the faders and see how he goes NTO. Jim Goldie has an interesting record with the few fillies he has debuted in April over the years and Baker's Pursuit still an early starter for him. But, another that got held up well off the pace and just trundled on down the rail into the faders and not a great deal of real 'promise'. Or60s type anyway. More interest in the others in trying to find an Open Maiden type. Finaz representing trainer Dalgleish who showed he had his horses ready fro debut in 2011 in his first season but also showed he had them too fiery as well. Two debuts at this course in 2011 produced a win for Sound Advice who careered around after the race and broke jockey Mulrennan's leg going through a rail. Another was a 2nd for Stonefield Flyer who unseated his jockey in the paddock and ended up being walked TP by the trainer. Finaz supported which would suggest an ok one and hints of real info towards the Market from the stable in 2011. But, Finaz also fizzy AP and looking a bit 'hot'. Got going ok but then ran a lot of the race with his head in the air looking like this was all too much for him. Losing ground quickly and dropping to the rail after 1F which was what hindered Hototo. On circumstantials should be ok for OR70s+ but you would want to see him setled down & more ficussed before supporting him. Limit Up ran much better than the final results shows and one of those pressing the pace and did best of those that did. Still in 2nd place towards the last half furlong before a tired fade hid the promise. Shorter and lengthier type of the sire and perhaps not real 5f but Open Maiden class and interesting to see what price he is STO and in what set-up. Trainer Dascombe has not had a winner yet and no runner has rated 30+. Hard to find one that has put a full race together. If they start slowly they only get involved by trundling on late and if they press the pace they fade. Stable not 'in form' yet or some lingering issue? But, Capo Rosso travelled well in the lead here and, like Limit Up, only let go inside the last 1F and ran better than 8th suggests. Would want to see the Dascombe 2yos going better overall (will Chester next week improve things?) but CR one to check STO. Hints of promise from the other two with I've No Money attending the pace from a wide draw so a positive for having some pace. Probably little scope but better for a faster surface and probably competitive in weak auction events until mid-season. Stand N Applaude green and unbalanced for most of the race so hard to judge but able to make some progress after a slow start before having to be eased early because he was rolling about too much |
