GF from G two days prior and 4mm of Watering on Fri after racing. Stiff ESE Wind = Three-Quarter Headwind from the Left. 1.95s Slower than earlier Fillies' Group 3 and that race had a slow pace. This even slower with field tight against Stands Rail as banks of 2-3 horses as 2-3-3-3-2 front to back. Last pair 7L+ back of ambling leading pair so out of the race whatever their ability. Which begs the question of how Solace & Alnawiyah gor from well back in positions at halfway to get to 3rd & 4th at the line? One BIG answer is that they were the pair that ended up running close to the rail in the last 2F as the field spread out to Centre track and byond and the 'Ruck' finishing Centre track. Despite finishing behind Alnawiyah, Solace made her ground more convincingly and for minimal asking from the jockey. Alnawiyah rolling around a little worryingly between 2F out to 1F out hanging left with her head held awkwardly to the right. Rolled back to the rail before 1F out to make the late ground for a full ride. How much of the 'Promise' Real? Some of it must be. Zero Game also made her ground by trundling up the empty lane left near the rail as the prominent runners and midfield went left to Centre Track. Ruck not helped by the green Valley of Queens veering left towards 1F out and bumping Downhill Dancer with that filly then bumping Stresa. Savvy Chic made her ground around the outside of the Group in Centre Track before the last 1F before then being allowed to drift back a bit and lose places also to the Magic Carpet rail runners. Meanwhile, Winsili always travelling best in 2R and able to skip clear racing close to rail and 3L clear by 1F out and a comfortable win. |
