£10k Bonus Race. Going Changed to S from GS after Race 1 (this race). GGS from GF by 13:00 after 10mm of rain. GF in the early morning as it had been two days prior. But a belt of rain moving through before racing with 8mm forecast. Check Going Update. No Going Stick reading for early am. Reading from 13:00pm. Stiff Southerly Wind = mostly Crosswind from Left, Slight Headwind. Hannon website pre-race = "Richard Hannon said: 'Hughesie found it difficult to choose between King Oliver and Millers Wharf in the opener. He has opted for King Oliver, who ran a nice first race at Newbury to finish second to Derwent and should improve for the experience, though he is not well drawn. Millers Wharf ran well at Goodwood, but he was drawn wide that day and the winner (Blessington) had the advantage of being right up against the stands rail. In the circumstances, our fellow ran well to finish close up in seventh, so we have two solid chances.'" Worth thinking about that quote in terms of the Betting Forecast pre-race. KO with Hughes at 4/1 and MW with Dobbs at 20/1, KO comes from a very slowly run race. Field raced Centre Track throughout. Mix of Run Styles at finish with first 2 home the prminent runners able to produce an effort off the Pace. 3rd & 4th the best of those Held up 4-5L off the lead and then plugging on to the finish and still going forward. Digress made 1L+ only on winner from Hf with MMaster not making any ground. Rock Up a solid Effort at 2F out to lead but stalling in the last 0.5F and not seeing the full distance out as the winner did. |
