£10k Bonus Race. G from GGS two days prior. Going Stick reading from Noon. Stalls Centre. Stiff to Strong SSW Wind = Mostly Crosswind from Left, Slight Headwind. Charlton website = "So Beloved now measures 16.2hh which means he would be one of the biggest two year olds in the country. He is a good mover and a half brother to Deportivo, who was a good sprinter. His work has been promising, but there should be plenty of improvement to come." Charlton website post race = "I was pleased with So Beloved's debut race, he travelled well and got tired in the final furlong. He has a nice attitude and should develop into a good 3 year old." Hannon website after the race = "RICHARD HANNON would have been disappointed if we had not won one of the two-year-old races at Newbury yesterday, and, while we duly walked into the spot reserved for number one after the first division of the maiden, the boss was looking somewhat bemused as Julie Wood's A Ladies Man, who started 5-4 favourite, trailed in 10th behind our second string, Lady Rothschild's 18-1 shot Glean. 'That was not what we expected,' observed the boss. 'Glean is a nice colt and comes from the same family as Golan and Tartan Bearer, so he ought to stay further, but he is not the type who is over extravagant in his work on the gallops, so this was a bit of a surprise. In contrast, A Ladies Man had worked like a very good horse at home, and we thought that he would win. He fell in a hole at the two-furlong-pole, and something must be amiss, but we will have him checked over in the next couple of days and see if something pops up.' However, Pat Dobbs was delighted with Glean, who raced in the Nathaniel colours of the Rothschild family. He said:'I had never sat on Glean at home, so was going into the unknown, but Kieren O'Neill had ridden him in a couple of pieces of work and he told me that he went well, so it is not a complete surprise. He always travelled and the penny dropped at half-way and he grabbed hold of the bridle, and from that point we were never going to get beaten. It is never easy from the one draw here at Newbury, but I tried to get some cover and everything worked out well. He is not that big, but he has really started to mature this past month or so and is a nice prospect for the future.' " Field raced Centre Track. |
