Transferred meeting from Newcastle which was still waterlogged. Entries reopened and only RV of the unraced 4 originally entered for Newcastle. Stiff SW Wind = Quarter Tailwind from the Right Good effort from Mosstang set a solid pace that put the others under pressure and able to produce a kick towards the last 1F when the jockey looked back and thought he needed to put a bit more distance back to the chasing pair. Mosstang responded and going on strongly at the finish. Jockey said after the race he had been told the horse had been working well enough at home to win as he did and felt the horse was going on well at the finish. The horse confirming the promise of his Kempton debut in a productive race for subsequent winners. Ran too freely on soft ground LTO and lost his action. Also reported he coughed after the race. Able to get to the lead here just with his cruising speed and mostly settled and not taken on. Solid, balanced, medium sprinter and OK as OR80+. Ryedale Valley seemed to put up a solid debut by the trainer's standards and of the level that would produce a winner in the OR66-74 range. Broke well and ran with the leader for 1F but then unable to stay with him comfortably and 1L back after 2F. But, a little green overall and held off AP comfortably. Seemed Ok. Ace Pearl an interesting story. Bought at Keeneland in the US as a 1yo by David Redvers who has wangled his way in as Bloodstock Agent to 'Pearl Bloodstock'. Who are the Qatari Royal Family building a Thoroughbred empire. Redvers tried to sell on Ace Pearl at the Kempton 2yo breeze-up but he only made £10,000 and Redvers signed for the sale again so presumably retained him. Look at the breeze video on the Goffs website and the low price seems reasonable. Looks a small & compact one and never gets out of 2nd gear in the breeze. Jockey error? But seems a short actioned one and not obvious a lot would happen if he did 'stretch out'. So you are an out-of-pocket bloodstock agent with a suspect one to shift. Sidle up to His Highness and suggest you've got one that might land a bit of a punt at Southwell. The trainer has tried him on fibresand at home and he goes well apparently. Mr Qatar is in the glow of the same trainer giving him a debut 2yo success at Newmarket 2 days before and falls for..., err, says 'Yes'. Market seemed to think that what happened last time at NMKT was a starting template for here. Until support for Mosstang in the morning and before the race straightened things out. AP showed nothing in the race that did not match with the uninspiring Kempton breeze. A bit green and head up at times. Is he really going to turn into something a man who could buy anything would want? Baraboy in the second colours and always hanging left after being taken to centre track alone early. Jockey seemed to get bored trying to stopping hanging so tried easing him at 1F out instead with little effect. Horse showed a big knee action and seems likely to need longer distances to show whatever lower level ability he has. |
