SUMMARY
£10k Bonus Race.

GF as it had been two days prior. 16mm of Rain on Wed, 2mm Fri. Wtaering as 7mm on Fri and between 3-7mm on Sat.

Rail fully in.

Light Northerly Wind = Three-quarter Tailwind from Left up the Hill, mostly Crosswind from Left in Home Straight, slight Tailwind.

Race with a strong recent record. 2009 version won by Our Johnathan who won the Cornwallis at 2yo and still a high class sprint handicapper in 2012. Licence To Till second that year and and has won off OR90 in 2012. Lexi's Hero won in 2010 and rated around OR100 at 4yo. Kune Kune won in 2011 and won a Nursery laster off OR85 and has not run at 3yo to this point. He beat Nayarra who went on to win the SOFT Italian Group 1 in later season for juveniles. She has finished unplaced in all run in 2012 to date and probably not far into the OR90s in reality at any point to make the point about the quality in Italy at present (ongoing financial and funding problems stripping out quality to add to the low base compared to the stronger nations).

Firmer Going and the rail In meant a more typical 5f race here with Running prominently on the rail at a usable pace meaning other horses will have to be better class to get by. Polish Crown staying on over 6f her FTO after a slow start and getting behind. Slightly slow break on the rail here but hustled along to get to the lead and control the race. Not stopping at the finish but overhauled by a better type in context.

Not strong form overall with a bunch finish still resolving itself bythe line and two better types on Profile running below their level for various reasons. Time And Place ran in the same race on debut as Millkwood (on STO) & Shillito (4TO) at THSK. Worth comparing how those 3 ran in different circumstances here. Shillito had the run of the race at THSK able to run prominently on the rail. TAP started slowly and got back to 2R near the rail by halfway with an effort. But then hang left in the last 2F and finished just ahead of Millkwood who had run centre track overall. TAP a slow start here and again had to work to get to 2R on the rail. Then took time to get going off the usable pace to switch out to centre track int he straight to run down the leader late on. TAP probably OR78+ and running down borderline OR74-5s and lesser group. Shillito has an official OR75 for example and not handle the uphill LH bend to straight fully but is exposed as below OR75 and not Open Maiden level. Millkwood had the run of the race and perhaps OR70 on a good day. Polish Crown a bit better than that. Dream Ally returning from long break and going on at the finish and perhaps another int he same range but not a group to follow particularly.

Top Boy poorly placed by trainer Shaw and no surprise to see that strainer struggling to win even with a good one. TBoy has an OR100 rating which is a produce of the races he has run in rather than his abilirt which is in the OR85-90 range. Hauled back twice by the jockey behind the usable pace to try to stop him pulling, as he has before a lot, but not fully successful. Unlike Time And Place did not really pick up int he straight and a 'Flat' effort', perhaps because of the free running or poor training and targetting, to just make laboured progress.

Robot Boy an expensive breeze-up purchase and Barron booked Dettori because he likes to get the Premier jockeys when he can. Apparently went out of his way to try to get Piggott to ride one of his in his early career. Mostly positives in the Breeze Vidio which shows an ok sized short and bulky one of his sire. Looking mentally mature. Runs straight in the breeze and balanced if a bit head up. A niggle would be that he seems a bit stiff and 'set' in his body as he moves and not really showing a lot of range or athleticism. Relaxed and mature in prelims here. Drawn wide and a slower break and ended up hung wide in midfield. Then niggled along losing ground uphill to the turn and not picking up in the straight. Given he looked mature mentally that seemed more likely to be feeling the ground than greenness. Perhaps also to do with his body stiffness and set position in the gallop?

Worth noting Swinbank's record so far in relation to Bitusa. His first 4 debut runners have run ok then on STO have produced 3 wins and a 20/1 2nd in a photo. That will presumably be enough to improve his terrific record with STOs in Jun-Aug in thge last 10 seasons. The 5th debut was last of 10 at 33/1 and seems unlikely to be a STO blossomer. What about Bitusa? Green and a poor run here and a bit of Surplus Stock or a possible blossomer?

Support for Spirit Of Parkes late on before he went loopy in the stalls and trainer Dascombe mostly positive in 212 but did not make him sound like a ready 5f 2yo. Said he was by an NH sire out of a 5f winning mare but was 'tall, long and lean'. Given the trainer has had just a single FTO win to this point a debut win in a solid enough maidenlike this would have seemed unlikely.
