Medium WSW Wind = Three-Quarter Headwind from Right Back Straight, Three-Quarter Tailwind from Left in Home Straight and mostly Tailwind around the Bend. Poor maiden on Profile and even weaker with the Race Shape reducing GA & Multisure's competitiveness. Which left Welliesinthewater with the task of hauling himself pastthe smaller and poor quality Mace The Ace off a usable pace to win. Rare 2yo winner for Shaw and indicative of the lack of quality and competition in race. Worth looking back to Wellies' debut which seemed a better [Est] than a typical Shaw debut. Lost a lot of ground at CARL FTO and 10L+ back at Hf and Hung to Centre track up the hill. DID show something at that elvel tomake ground to be 2R towards 1F out before being heavily eased to hide that promise. Take the easing into account and his debut rating competitive here. Bigger type in context of this weak race and a common WTON 'type' in that sense with Natural OR60s often able to dominate weak fields in empty Auctions & Maidens. Grievous Angel got behind in BS then trying to get past Wellies by running wide in straight around him. Blinkered and labouring along. Multisure's place LTO no better value than Wellies' debut anyway. But an interesting wrinkle watching how his race unfolded. Multisure going fine in 2R on rail around the bend and looking in a good spot. Then MTAce hung across to the rail later on the bend and slowed up the horse Multisure was tracking and he found himself 3R on the rail with nowhere to go and being carried backwards out of the race, relatively. Unexciting bit of plodding on once clear on the Far Side in the straight but would have got him involved in finish if started from 1.5L off lead rather than 4-5L back.
