SUMMARY
£10k Bonus Race.

Going changed from SGS the previous day to SHV after 5mm of rain during Weds and 12mm overnight. Mostly dry day forecast. Going Stick reading from 09:00am and 0.6 slower going than previous day. Goodwood meeting abandoned on the day after 19mm of overnight rain as was Newton Abbot. Yarmouth survived an inspection.

The rail out by 3 yards from the start to the cutaway point at the 1.5F point. This adds an extra 10 yards to the race. This event 1,126 yards compared to yesterday's 1,116yds.

Stiff Southerly Wind moving SW through the afternoon = Half Headwind to Crosswind from Right for first half of race and then a Tailwind to some degree for the remainder.

Capo Rosso & Trinityelitedotcom both running on softer going than they would have been the previous day having been NRs because of the going. Not soft enough for them?

Despite the usually large field and Class 3 status the race has a poor record of producing subsequent winners. The bulk of the field not Seller runners and worse from lesser stables. Presumably because of the turning course, draw bias and large fields most larger stables avoid the race. In the three years 2009-11 the Barrys Hills' trained favourite has failed to win but made the first 4 and gone on to win at open maiden level. The only other subsequent winner from the 17 other horses in 2010-11 was a David Evans filly that won a seller. In 2010 Fahey had a rare runner and a rare better class winner who won again at Conditions level. The 4th in 2011 another later seller winner for Evans and the 5th an OR70+ filly for Tim Easterby that won a maiden. The typical Hills' representative in this year and a rare Mark Johnston runner. Kevin Ryan & Bryan Smart larger nothern yards with rare runners but both for owner Koukash who expects to have 30+ runners at the meeting so owner driven.

Jockeys booked on Dascombe runners were - TrinityDC (Kingscote, Owen owned so perhaps rinding for the boss rather than strict 'string 1' plus Drawn 1), CR (Buick, 12), FG (J Doyle, 4), MJ (stable A3, 10) & Tomway (Winston, 11).

Capo Rosso & Lucky Beggar both drawn wide and very Late NRs because of 'Going' which seems odd since this had not changed. Presumably both had given up waiting for runners drawn inside them to become NRs to make it worth them taking their chance from 'Car Park' draws.

Very Slow Time. 3.42s slower than the Lily Agnes the previous day on SGS going. Around 1.3s slower than any juvenile race at the distance here since starts 2004. Previous slowest around 65.6s with Captain Gerrard winning the Lily Agnes in 65.56s in 2007 on Heavy going and River Kintyre a full-on 'Pace War' version of this maiden in 2005 on GS going. Pace just looked average at most and perhaps below average but even so the leading edge of the race was folding backwards well before the finish. TrinityEDC fading into the last 1F worn down by the bigger Fat Gary but then FG fading in the last 0.5F allowing Mandy Lexi, who had been 2L+ down at halfway but lost another 2L as the front two kicked into the straight 1.5F, to plug on to nearly get 4L back on FG in the last 0.5F as he tied up and a photo-finish. Party Royal 4L back at halfway but fading before 0.5F out so unable to mount any closing challenge and going with his head up and walking by the last 0.5F. AMD shown poor form in slow race on debut and a small, compact filly against bigger types and raced in Lane 1. But, unable to go with the later race efforts and soon fading. Blown away by bigger and better horses and a poor favourite. MJess alrady a proven short runner and usual early fade here and the other 3 well back by halfway and some mix of green and not handling the conditions.
LTPrincess broke a little slowly and looking startled then veered right immediately and lost 10L or more. Then didn't pick and and the jockey seemed to accept things after that and trundle round well adrift. LTP in the 1st colours but like AMD another who looked small and achieved little in a weak WTON race FTO and didn't see that race out. Instructive race in Profile given that there were breeze-up videos of TEDC, Tomway & MLexi from KTNA to review. All three ran like their video notes. See URL = Goffs Sales Results - which has the links to the videos and search by Dam name.

Tomway a short and fat one and perhaps typical of the sire. Trundled unconvincingly through his 1F AW breeze looking a bit podgy. Unlikely to have the nous to get involved here and not be fit enough anyway. TEDC much more convinging and steamed through 1F without stopping if a little head up but showing some natural pace. Looked like a fast ground type and let him put other horses under pressure as a ready sprinter. Showed that to some extent by leading but the fade probably indicative he would be better served by a faster surface 5F test. MLexi a solid breeze but clearly bigger than LTP and another where if she had done better than LTP it would have been no surprise despite the 'Second Colours'. That idea did not get tested fully because of LTP's antics but hard to believe she would have done better than being involved in the photo given what she showed on debut.

Another 'Second String' example with ML at 8/1 and LTP at 4/1 and the relative closeness of the SPs perhaps a hint their relative merits might actually be different from the Market knowledge.
