SUMMARY
GFG from GF two days prior. 7mm of rain in previous 24hrs to early morning. Going Stick reading from 07:30 as 8.1 in Centre & on Stands' Side, 8.0 Far Side.

Rail fully in and no change to Race Distance.

Stiff to Strong WSW Wind = Mostly Crosswind from Left in Home Straight, slight Tailwind. Half Tailwind from Left in the 7f Chute.

ADS going to clear lead in Chute as others held up. Able to respond when challenged,

Sectional Times for Each 1F for the Whole field. Effectively the First 6F are for ADS although Dundonnell perhaps headed him before 1F out. =

1st 1f = 14.75s
2nd 1f = 11.67s
3rd 1f = 11.69s
4th 1f = 10.88s
5th 1f = 10.88s
6th 1f = 11.43s
7th 1f = 12.45s

Interesting to see how J O'Brien on ADS upped the pace in the 4th & 5th furlongs before 2F out. This is when the other three contenders were making their ground back to the leader so they were having to run faster 1F times to close. Penultimate 1F quite slow and not the quickest as it often is and a subtlely different race from the 'jog for 5f then make the efforts at the 2F pole' template. Probably explains why the last 2f looked like four horses staying on as best they could rather than making any moves. But does not immediately explain why Ebn Arab made ground looking so comfortable in the fastest 2F then found nothing in the last 2f and fading by 0.5f out. Or perhaps it does. Or why Steeler appeared to get outpaced at 2F out then staying on again right to the line. Dundonnell perhaps showing he was the best by making ground in the faster furlongs and then able to, relative to the others, maintain his effort that bit longer.

Hills website the following week = "Ebn Arab was slightly disappointing, but it looked a very good renewal of The Acomb. He has gone slightly weak on us since his winning debut and we will give him some time now. He's another who will probably have just one more run this year as he's very much a horse for next season."
