GGF as it had been 2 days prior. Going Stick Reading from 11:00am but rain forecast for afternoon before this Evening Meeting. Bend out by 5yds adding 8yds to Race Distance. Stiff to Strong SSE Wind = Quarter Tailwind from Left in Home Straight. Slow Pace and classic bit of Easy Lead ensuring the 2.5F sprint suited those prominent, who stayed the full 8f and kept to the Far Side. Pearl Castle allowed to trundle along in the lead and choose when to start the efforts. Kept closest to Far Rail which seemed and advantage. Astrosapphire 3L back of winner at halfway and a little close to him by the finish and the other one to stay Far Side. Sovereign Power making an okish effort but failing to stay. Lightning Launch held up and racing Cent-FrSd strip in straight. Made effort to get to challenging for 2nd but another to fade in the last 1F. Video review of PC's debut suggests he got behind through greenness and the jockey trying to get himt o settle then taking a long tim to get going while the 2F+ sprint kicked off in centre track in a slow race. Drawn 1 on a wing the jockey spent the first 1F trying to stop him pulling and drop in. Never pulling hard. When he got him settled PC then stopped going forward after 2F (which would seem reasonable to the horse after 2F of having his teeth pulled out). The jockey then started niggling him along and the horse (which happens in so many races) is presumably confused about what is required, chastened and chided for Stopping or Going. Racing out on a wing seemed an issue as well. Losing places after halfway as the pace picked up and rolling arounf through greenness. Spent -2F to -1F with his head to one side appearing intimidated by a horse rolling around in front of him. Look at the run for clues to him being able to imporve STO and you could say that the jokcey never packed it in as if he knew the horse had more to give. The niggling along meant he never faded and had picked up the odd place and some ground by the finish. Presumably some different work regimes since because he race much more professionally here and settled into a sot lead. More evidence of Market support and activity in Second String terms with the Godophin pair of newcomers. But, overall the Zarooni 2yos have looked less wired and knowing in 2012 and this pair both green overall. Both also given non involving rides and held up off the pace and racing wide in the straight. Restraint Of Trade slow to get going and ended up last on the rail. Switched out wide to centre track to look to make ground in the straight and losing ground and momentum to a leader going straight off a usable pace and probably switching ontop slower ground. Given that and his inexperience meaning he floundered around and hung left in Centre track (finished nearer to Stands Side) and ok effort to finish where he did and not fading. Lord Provost almost as green and held up and racing wide around the bend. Also ende dup racing in Centre track and floundering about partly because of greenness. Checking the Zarooni stats rather than 'mental impression' doesn't really stand up the 'less ready in 2012' take. To the end of the previous day he had 9 FTO wins from 52 goes (which sounds low for a 'ready FTO trainer' but is 17% SR and a number of multiple runner races in that). That had produced a small profit. In 2011 to the same Race number he had 8 FTO wins from 46 goes (17% again) and a substantial profit so evidence for the Market shortening more of his debut runners rather than there being less of them for readiness reasons. |
