Heavy rain through meeting and Going changed to HV after race 4. This was race 3. SHV from GGS two days prior. 17mm of rain on Saturday and 2.5mm overnight. Heavy rain forecast from mid-Morning before racing. Going Stick Reading From 06:30am. Strong Southerly Wind = almost a Direct Headwind. Testing conditions and a slow time. Trainer Portman now 3-6 with FTOs in 2012 and getting debut wins later into season. Hints that racing centre to Far Side better than Centre to Stands' side. AAdmiral took up soon after halfway and joined by Jebril & Ivanhoe by 3f out. That trio plugged on together with never more than a neck between them until late on when AA faded. AA & Jebril rolling around in last 0.5f and both leant on Ivanhoe and squeezed him out a bit. Jullundar a bit green overall and not looked knowing enough on his latest gallops Video when asked to make progress late on in the gallop. Working with Jontleman and losing 1L+ to him in the last 1f through being green and rider resorted to whip. 2L+ back at halfway and unlike the other pair to challenge jockey waiting until inside 2F to make his progress. Looked the likely winner closing towards duelling trio in last 1f but always offering to hang left in behind them and needing correcting. Given slow time and walking finish still had time to finally get by them and lead close to the line but either faded or didn't like being in front and slowed a bit and Jebril finally lead on the line with AA fading and Ivanhow having been hampered but still plugging on. |
