SGS from GGF two days prior. 17mm of rain on Saturday. Rain forecast to start around 1hr before this race. Going Stick reading from 11:00am. Stiff to Strong SSE Wind = Three-Quarter Tailwind from the left. Beat The Tide has looked a rangy, one pace, galloper and this step up to 8f good for him. But fading before 1F out. Seems too much of an enthusiast at present and pulling and wanting to get on with it from early on and held up. Also has a slightly extravagant action and hist the ground hard. Seems he needs to settle down and race within himself more to stay. But another in a string of recent runs for trainer Dods, many at shorter SPs, failing to place. In general his horses have not progressed from debut again, particularly the FTO winners. Reasons? Grandorio has 8f pedigree and stepping up from 5F LTO when he got left behind by the pace. Probably lacking pace for 6f in previous races. Looked well suited to this slower 8f and comfortable win. |
