SUMMARY
£10k Bonus Races.

Going Stick reading same as the previous day and 0.1 firmer Centre track compared to the flanks. Going Stick readings from 08:00am. Medium Northerly Wind = Mostly A crosswind from the Right.

Meehan on his Website wrt Forbidden Fruit = "Sharp colt is half-brother to five winners rated up to 100. He has been going nicely on the home gallops, but as usual with a Manton newcomer, will benefit greatly from the experience, while running a nice race."

Hannon on his Website = "Janoub Nibras is our two-year-old there. He worked well on the grass earlier in the week, so we know that he will go in the soft. We won the race last year with North Star Boy, and I'd like to think that we can win it again with this fellow.". Note that Hannon ran four horses at the meeting but Hughes chose to go to HYDK where Hannon had two runners. Moore riding JN here.

Michael Bell on his website May 9th = "The first group to work was the two-year-old colts STAR OF ROHM and THE MANX MISSILE. SOR is developing into a really nice horse and he worked well with TMM who could run at Ascot on Saturday." Picture on website shows SORohm clearing away from a toilng TMM looking a bit green and a smaller heavy one (sire typ?).

Time 2.21s faster than previous day's fastest , small field, fillies' maiden. Both the fillies races seemed to be 2F sprints off lesser paces and Limit Up ensuring a better pace here. Crosswind here compared to Headwind and 24 hours more drying off the ground despite the Going Stick readings being officially the same.

The Newbury maiden that Cay Verde ran in looked very solid on profile and likely to produce a lot of susbsequent winners. CV just a medium size one and not the most taking of those in that field and lower down on the 'Future' prospects list. 4 later runs from that maiden have now produced 3 wins and a strong second place for Dust Whirl (behind Yes Two and ahead of Top Boy) and tying the various form lines together. The next runner from that maiden is the Filly Edged Out at Windsor on Monday. She came from well behind to make more ground that Cay Verde did at NWBY to finish midfield.

Although faster than the previous day's races still just an average pace at most. A lot of free-running and FFH behind and only one of those free-runners finished the race off. Add to those faders the green ones unable to pick up in the ground in the last 2F and the first 4 home really had the race to themselves and only a couple of changes to their relative positions in the last 2F. CV able to put 2-3L onto 2nd & 3rd and TB lost a bit of ground by hanging before plugging on well enough again.

in 2009-11 the race has been solid without producing much higher class. Will normally produce at least half the field, or a bit more, as maiden winners. 2011 did include an 8f Listed winner as well as the Superprint victor plus a surprise Coventry placer. This edition looks more like the 2009-10 versions and should produce the normal range of maiden winners. Cay Verde a comfortable winner and produced a couple of solid efforts in later race. But, just a medium size and not convincing as really better class. Inclined more to view him as a comfortable 'Ascot' form winner who does not look as good in other circumstances. An example of hos looking at the Gallops videos on the Channon website can be a little misleading. CV not look that good but in work on grass in groups at easy paces. The AW gallop work which presumably is more informative is not on the website.

Hannon would typically start OR80s types at the course and in the last 3 years the runners have been a range between OR75-92 types but have only managed maiden wins at best. Janoub Nibras a solid debut and seems to fit well into the OR80s model.

Top Boy has been treated as a development project and they are always trying to get him to settle. Similar here and held well back by jockey Baker. Still going well despite the pulling into the last 2F but having to wait for a gap to make his effort with the first 3 home making 'cleaner' efforts. Started hanging left when pressed to make his effort and never really picked up in the same way as he did on better going at DONC. Trainer still struggling to get the best out of him and OR80s and comfortable maiden winner if he can get TB to run a settled and competent race.

Marvelino another of the pullers and unbale to pick up when the efforts were made. Smaller type and losing his 'precociousness' advantage and lacking scope. End up in nurseries and probably needs a faster 5f test and less stiff opposition to win a Maiden.

Interesting run by Classic Art to add to the circumstantials. Trainer Teal a small stable but does quite well with the competitive 2yos he does have. He is also a complete 'Front Loader' which means CA should be a usable one. Better physical type than the cheap retained sales price. Ok size and good mover. Ran green and allowed to get well back by the jockey. 8L back at halfway and jockey was going to let him drift home in last place. Closing up to the faders by the last 1F and able to get well into them for minor asking. OR75+ and should improve notably STO. Ok to follow.

Debuts for Meehan at ASCT and for the Sangsters are usually good types. Forbidden Fruit another one of the free-runners who did not pick up and faded. WTRB report made to state he ran too freely. Another solid OR75+ type.

Trainer Ron Harris made his name with older sprinters but is getting more 2yo runners now. Does front-load and has a good record of developing his winners to multiple successes. The horses always needed to develop to win and no win before 4TO to 2010 and best was 3TO in 2011. He has already had a FTO win this year in a odd GDWD race. Melodee Princess an expensive breeze-up purchase and her video shows her doing a very solid and organised 2F breeze and presume did a solid time without looking that quick given the money she made. A big and strong filly to add to the positives. A more typical Harris debut and held her up and then she travelled ok but not knowing enough to pick up on the soft turf. But, a good prospect to develop with racing and improve with the Harris training regime.

Limit Up made the pace twice but then faded badly and looks a short-runner. A good size and the question is whether he can improve and see out a full 5f on faster ground.

The Manx Missile talked up as a better type and a natrual strong early 2yo and the trainer's '2yos of 2012' Bargain Buy. Picture shows hum getting murdered by Star Of Rohm at home which made him look green, smalelr and laboured. Trainer would also start a maiden winner class this early even if they took time to win. Another free-runner who failed to pick up and faded. This quote from the trainer's website later on the day = "Later on the Ascot card TMM was making his racecourse debut. He took a keen hold early on and chased the leaders over three furlongs out failing to make any impression. He is really going to have to learn to settle if he is going to fulfil his potential as we know he holds ability and hopefully he will be seen to better effect next time."

Channon on his website post race = "The most eye-catching performance however came from the Box 41 owned CAY VERDE who confirmed the promise he showed on his debut in a Newbury maiden in April by taking the two year old McGee Group Maiden Stakes over five furlongs later in the card. The Bahamian Bounty colt has thrived since his racecourse introduction and travelled superbly throughout the contest to impose himself on the opposition approaching the furlong marker. He ran on strongly to win by two and a half lengths ahead of better fancied juveniles. With Box 41 members in attendance, Mick was left to start plotting an assault at a far higher level. 'That was impressive wasn't it? Usually our horses struggle in soft ground, but they're going alright at the moment and I'm thrilled with this lad. He's always gone very well at home and he's taken a £10,000 Bonus prize today and beaten some nice types into the bargain. I'd imagine we'll take in a conditions race now and have a look at aiming him at one of the races at the Royal Meeting. Box 41 have had good ones in the past and you never tire of big days out. We're all good mates and I think we're all thinking the same thing! Let's hope he continues to improve as he looked useful today.'"
