SUMMARY
£10k Bonus Race.

SGS fom SHV at 2 days prior. Going Stick reading from 08:30am.

Inner rail out by 8yds from start to the intersection but home straight full width. Medium to Stiff SW Wind = Half Tailwind from the Right.

-----------------

Meehan's Website wrt Fantacise begins with lots of fluff about siblings while avoiding the 'Tailing Off' question and stuff about Pivotals and soft but only worthwhile bit = "Optimism on this debut, but as usual it is expected that she will learn from the experience. = Another test for whether 'learn from experience - is code for 'ordinary one and NGE to win FTO'."

Hannon on his website, compulsory 'Nice' and more useful as general info about gallops going = "while we run a couple of nice two-year-olds there in Miss Diva and Hairy Rocket. Annunciation and Janeab Nibras both shaped with a lot of promise today, but we never fine-tune our youngsters at home, and the gallops have been so wet that we have had no option but to be patient, so whatever the Windsor pair do on their debut they will improve on next time"

Two bits from James Millman's website news = "Poetic Verse makes her debut in the six furlong maiden. She is the third foal out of the owner’s tough winning filly Nina Fontenail, unfortunately her first two foals inherited her free-going nature and didn’t progress. However, this filly is by Byron (the previous two were both by Proclamation who has been a failure at stud) so hopefully she’s slightly calmer but will need this first run."
Plus this and presume 6f debut was abandoned = "Poetic Verse makes her debut in the five furlong fillies maiden. She will need the experience and will probably benefit from further in time. "

Paul Cole's website snippet from May 9th = "We are not running any two year olds this week because of the soft ground. Faluka who is quite speedy may run on Monday at Windsor. "

-----------------

Field went Far Side in the last 2F.

What to make of the Debut win, by a long margin, by Hairy Rocket? Trainer debut wins usually show better class ones but how much of this win was owed to RP fading early and EO underperforming? Trainer has recently run two in the race and they are typically a solid one (OR74-83) and a lesser one (Can range from OR60 non-winner through seller winner to OR74 maiden winner lacking scope). At least one of the pair is usually not a 5F filly and will improve for longer distances. Last better one he started in the race was Baileys Cacao who won FTO and proved OR90+ and won a Listed race at 2yo. On profile his two runners in this race looked to fit to this pattern but the style of Hairy Rocket's win looked better than the mid OR-80s normal development upper end.

Hairy Rocket ridden by Moore and a shorter price and this jockey has ridden the more forward one of the pair and winner for Hannon before in this race. Given an attacking ride by Moore as if he knew he was on a possible winner. Medium to Smaller type and notably fitter than a typical Hannon debut and partly because of her lighter build. Smaller than RP who she travelled with in the leading pair. Moore niggling her to pick up and challenge for the lead and before 2F out an led at 2F pole. Solid effort and kept on to the line. Made 2L on RP before that one faded badly. Perhaps a zippy, ready one for an owner breeder lacking scope but competitive through mid-season? late OR80s and Conditions level rather than any better?

More typical debut effort by Miss Diva and presumably the OR68-74 one that the Hannons will probably find a maiden to win before going to nurseries.

UPDATE = Hannon's website = "Thankfully, the ground is slowly starting to dry up, and we had something to celebrate at Windsor on Monday, when Hairy Rocket and Miss Diva gave us a one-two in the two-year-old race. The pair are by Pivotal and Acclamation respectively, so we were optimistic that they would handle the soft ground, but we were maybe not expecting such a scintillating debut from Hairy Rocket, who whizzed in by five lengths. Richard Hannon said: 'Our two-year-olds have been three weeks behind schedule because of the weather, but things are beginning to improve. We have plenty to run, and these two are a couple of sharp youngsters. Hairy Rocket has been working well and is very professional and we knew that there was not a lot between the pair, so it was no surprise that she won, though I did not expect her to win like that. She could go for the National Stakes at Sandown, and if all went well there we would have to think about Royal Ascot. Miss Diva has also run well - she has plenty of scope and she will soon go one better.'"

Fantacise a late foal of a dam who produced two Queen Mary winners 10 & more years ago. Still producing winners and this one retained for a solid price at the sales but not that much above Pivotal's covering fee and she should be worth that price as a broodmare prospect whatever size she is. Too green here and clearly not the better type to win FTO for Meehan. But, plugged on well enough at the end to think an ok OR70s type.

Rio's Pearl a solid size in the group and ran a bit freely in front. Had not seem out the 5F on debut and unable to here. Still in 2nd until into the last 1F before being overhauled by two smaller debut fillies plugging on. But dealt with by the winner and below her level. OR70s one and presumably will develop to see out 5F fully.

Edged Out a smaller one who had finished midfield FTO surrounded by winners. Achieved that by getting adrift and being driven along a lot and eventually staying on into the pack. Then went to SALS with RP and showed more suspect attitude in getting loose on the way to the start and dodging catchers. Smaller type and trainer tends to get them very fit FTO and gets moderate progression. Here EO seemed to show more negative attitude and niggled to get going then hanging left at halfway when being asked to respond to the leaders' efforts. Never seemed to pick up whatever the jockey did. Unable to even stay on as she had done at NWBY. Seems a suspect attitude and lacking scope.

Faluka and ok size but not that fit and the 'Very Green' end of the trainer debuts. Did respond in the 2nd half of the race enough to plug on and show some response. Probably enough to think she can improve notably STO and probably rate OR70+.

Poetic Verse a small one and even a STO blossoming for the trainer seems unlikely to make her competitive to win.

Harley's Rocket the first runner of the year for Brendan Powell and he does front-load. Reasonable size but running too freely before fading. But, the trainer has only ever had one 2yo winner and seemed to never get the most out of any potential the juveniles he has possess. The type to ignore on trainer grounds and ponder over what Hannon would have achieved with the horses Powell has trained as 2yos.
