No rain overnight. Stiff Westerly Wind = Half Headwind from Right in Back Straight and Half Tailwind from Left in the Home Straight. Race Conditions allow fillies that have cost up to £18,000 to run. Low level field here with the topweight - Mill End Dancer - having cost £6,000 and giving 1-3lbs to the other 7 with 3 costing 1,000 somethings or less. Looked a faster pace than the 2yo claimer on the card but final time only 0.05s faster than Caught Napping with this winner carrying 8lbs less than CN, in thory, but with a 7lbs apprentice allowance to factor in for CN. Poor quality race and Sylvia Pankhurst being able to win an indication of how weak the opposition was. SP comes from a RIPN race that has 'worked out' poorly but up against a weaker field than that race here so could win. Even so managed to get outpaced early as the other fillies with previous runs mildly pressed each other to make a pace. Jockey suggested that the getting outpaced was partly greenness but SP has seemed to lack pace at times in previous races then plugged on. Able to get to 2R as the pace slowed on the bend then able to plug on better than the fillies who had pressed the pace and further forward than the necomers who trundled towards the faders late. Look back to SP's EDIN run and she was 2L ahead of the notably small Miss Penny Arcade who ran in the claimer. MPA held up in that race and eased a bit late on and beaten just under 5L. Factor in the pace and SP perhaps running 1-2L better her than at EDIN. Moderate to poor stuff. Trainer Griffiths saying SP might go for the Hilary Needler next and mused over whether that might be 'flying too high'. Well it ought to be but when that race is in decline and sub-OR70 handicappers can place in some editions of it then an OR60 filliy like this would look less out of place than you would hope. Odd set-up between the Mick Easterby pair. Stable attached jockey on Cymeriad and Eaves on MEDancer. Look at the pair in review and MEDancer the better types. Small but stocky and balanced with it. Half sister to a low quality 2yo development winner for the stable. OR50s probably but MED seems like she might be usable so why second string? Hard to unpick whether she was given a non-involving ride to set her up for whatever is 'later' down the line or whether she is not that willing. In a weak field with nothing to follow in future you would at least watch whether there seems to be any development plan with MED. Cymeriad small and limited and not one to follow with a worthless '2' next to her name. Emperor's Daughter did best of the pace pressers and a real trier. Trainer seems to have a develop-with-racing MO now so ED can rate higher for what that may be worth. UIS not developing and seems an odd mix of a free running non-trier. Mission Bell tiny and presumably useless and a bit of a worry for the overall form that she got from being adrift early on, competing with her app jockey for who was most green, to on the back of the group despite running wide. Lucy Bee another trainer runner supported and you might say she ran wide FTO and ended up hanging because of that so underperformed. It also looked like an early fade from a short-runner and this effort would seem to back the second view up.
