£10k Bonus Race. Going HV by Meeting start time. S from GSG two days prior. 6.5mm of rain overnight with rain contuining in morning. Going Stick reading from 10:00am. Medium to Stiff WNW Wind = Quarter Tailwind from Right in Home Straight. More helpful on turn before that. 3secs slower than Div I and field stayed more Centre to Far Side rather than Centre to Stands Side in preceding three 2yo races. But slow time seemed more due to a contested pace early on with half the field involved for the first 1.5F and then raising the pace for final efforts well before 2F out after a mid-race pace lull. Field rolling home togther with everything tired rather than one horse plugging on strongly in centre track as in the the previous races. Worth noting the winner racing Widest in Centre in Straight of leading horses. Tobacco racing on the rail but then switching to widest Centre track in straight to plug on past tired horses to 2nd lat from 5th 1F out. [As ever, the ridiculous need for TV Directors to have to 'Do Something' rather than just leave us with the wide shot of the field in the last 1F meant they missed the start of that 'Close'. Close Up hides Closing.] |
