GSS from GGS two days prior. 2.5mm of Rain overnight and showers expected during race day. Going Stick reading from 09:45am. Stiff to Strong WNW Wind = Half Tailwind from Left in Home Straight. Stiff pace and field well spread by halfway. Note the overall lack of changes in position from halfway to finish. This seemed to be because the pace was stiff but usable and turned the race into a 'Time Trial' with fillies' fading in order as the pressure put on them broke them. Leaving aside a rail bias then a Good Test of relative ability. Plus marks for Silkelly & Meeting In Paris. First a good break wide and early lead and able to track across to be on the Stands Rail after 1.5F. MIP not as well away and niggled more to get prominent and move across and got to Lane 2 at best. Then a good effort at 2F out to go and challenege the winner and leaving VV (rail) & BD behind as chasing 2R clear of rest. Some of MIP effort hidden in final result by a late fade and mild hang left (this a THSK race with little of that). Maid A Million running the rail and never able to match the pace of leading 4 but never quite fading either and plugging on to get closest to them. Note the use of the Second Colours on the known better horse by Middleham Park Racing. Again. |
