Heavy from SGS two days prior after previous day's meeting abandoned for standing water on the track. 25mm of rain in past 24 hours to early am. This meeting survived a 06:30am Inspection. Going Stick reading from 06:15am. Light to Medium Northerly Wind = Crosswind from Right. Fahey SLife blog = "I'm on my own on this one - but Garswood drops back to five furlongs for the Harry Rosebery Stakes. Thankfully owner David Armstrong has backed me and I just feel this horse travels so strongly in his races it's worth trying. He has to step up on what he's shown so far but is talented and we like him an awful lot. It's disappointing he hasn't won yet but the soft ground could just slow the others up a little and Garswood should be coming home well." Given the quote above how Smug must Fahey have been after the race. Not just becauseof Garswood's victory but the manner of. Solid pace for testing conditions and 3 fillies that forced the pace fading early and finishing well back. Midfiled on Irish duo coming through to take up the pace in last 2F and good effort inside the last 2F by Zoola to go clear on the rail. Garswood coming from well back and having to switch to centre track to make progress late and outstaying the others in the last 1F. Hard to believe Garswood would have won if this had been GF going blast along a lively rail strip. |
