SUMMARY
£10k Bonus Race.

G as it had been two days prior and at Previous Day's meeting. 0.5mm of rain on Thursday evening. Going Stick Reading from 10:30am as 7.5 Far, 7.7 Centre & 7.8 Stands Side.

Stiff SW Wind = Close to Quarter Tailwind From Right.

Stalls Far Rail of Far Course. Stalls Far Rail of Far Course. Field raced Far Side. Slower Pace and not much more than a 2F Sprint.

Moderate race on Profile and a weak Group 1. Certify medium at most and lacking scope and does a lot on unusually smmoth and athletic movement. Has shown a better Change Of Pace in previous races and well suited to putting Sub-Group 1 fillies away in a sprint like this. But, Certify a little mulish overall and doing things wrong. Troublesome to get into the stalls. Not picking up after the break and niggled along. Then started to run too freely. All done in the manner of a filly testing the boundaries of what she can get away with. Started her effort before 2F out to assist making up the ground and getting into upper gears before the others started their 2F out efforts. Previous two winners of this race both ran for Godolphin with White Moonstone never seen again. 2011 winner Lyric Of Light ran once at 3yo when nearly pulled up in the 1,000 Guineas and disqualified from her 18th place for failing the test for banned substances. Other Group winning fillies for Godolphin in 2011 include Discourse who was pulled up in the Guineas with Lyric Of Light and not seen since with an injury. Gamilati held her form in Dubai at Meydan over the winter and has managed a place in a Group 3 race. Certify is going to have to be unusual to be around and in form next season on that record and her physique and the 'teenage behaviour' here other niggles. Take her out and this field is a weak Group 1.

Worth recording what Mick Channon said about this race when interviewed at various times pre-race and working to his script. Another example to file in the thick folder of examples which make you wonder whether trainers are the right people to listen to when it comes to trying to understand the broad view of racing. Someone like Gosden is very good andf very informative. Listen to Channon here and you are left shaking your head about whether that is rerally the best standard he can manage. Channon's response to the pre-race feeling that this was a weak Group 1 was to say repeatedly that people were wrong to say that and they should tell him who the better better fillies are if not the ones here? Which is just piffle and Channon is answering, or asking, the wrong question and appearing to do it without realising he has missed the point entirely. The people who were saying this was a weak field were comparing it to a Quality Standard longitudinally down the Generations. Of all the fillies and fields the race has had. Saying that the fillies here are the best of their crop around actually PROVES the negative point Mick, rather than disproving it because they are the best available. Woeful stuff. Channon also said that Ollie Olga didn't show much at home and that he didn't rate her that highly but thought she was "very tough". Which is arguing against his previous point, surely. He also chose the time to say he didn't work his horses hard at home despite what people think so didn't know their limits. People say that Mick because your 2yos turn up at the racecourse much fitter and leaner than many other trainers on their early runs. Rather than this 'tennis rally' of disconnected notes and jibes a good article or TV piece would be to consider why that is the case.
