SUMMARY

GSS from GSG 2 days prior after 9mm of rain on Fri-Sat night. Going Stick reading from 06:00am. Stalls Stands' Side.

Medium NW breeze = Half Headwind from the Right.

Race run in 2.29s faster than following, poor, seller with this winner carrying 3lbs more. 3rd race on card a Class 3 handicap run in 0.97s faster by an OR84 7yo carrying 9lbs more before this A7 factored in. Notably Slow Time and 1.7s slower than any in 2010-11.

Hillbilly Boy able to set a comfortable pace which was Average at most. He has shown his best form racing prominently but got a comfortable task here against a mixed group with less fitness and craft than him.

Mark Johnston used to run high class ones in this race and they would often win FTO. That went away a few years ago and he now either does not have a runner or runs some form of moderate to 'ok' one. Last season's runner took 5 goes to win a maiden then was 2nd in a nursery off OR76. Maputo similar level and perhaps a little better. Jockey gave him a quiet time and happy to finish 2nd.

Tha'ir some sort of 'pedigree' and support the new Darley stallion but (New Approach). Smaller one and below Open maiden level. Typical of the early runners Godolphin often have which are just to get going with some 'Surplus Stock'. Not one to follow.

Given the slow time the race may be over-rated so hard to judge just how promising the likes of Two Pancakes & Off Art were. Not Open maiden types on profile and see how that group develops and suspect set probably. Some general interst in Off Art because his dam has not produced a winner in 8 previous foals. Trainer has run wom usable ones int he race and he looks better as a type than the cheap sales price suggests.
