S from G two days prior. 15mm of rain on Thursday and 13.5mm overnight. Going Stick reading from 10:00am. Far Side course in use. Light to Medium NNW Wind = Three-Quarter Tailwind from Left. Hannon website pre-race = "...It looks a much stronger race, but Havana Gold has obvious claims, having won his Group 3 well over the same course and distance last week. He has come back bouncing and is unlucky not to be going there five from five, so we have to roll the dice again. You'd also have to respect Tamayuz Star. He gave subsequent Royal Lodge winner Steeler a fright at Goodwood and, though he then won the six furlong sales race at Newmarket, he will definitely appreciate going back up to seven. Global Icon was third in the Newmarket race, having not enjoyed the best of runs, and he, too, is improving." Slower Pace and field raced closely bunched in Centre Track. Pace wound up from inside 3F out until 2F out efforts. This partly balanced the early pace but Havana Gold still set a tough task to run down a solid opponent given a 3L+ head start. Smooth progress but then only able to match Ghurair's effort. Better three seemed to pull clear to suggest enough pressure in race overall. Race & Status still a bit green and running too freely early. Clancy Avenure an ok size and travelling better than the effort he found in the last 1f+. Race Conditions = "£500,000 guaranteed For 2yo which were catalogued in Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sales of 2011 and which have been declared by Tattersalls Ltd. as eligible to be entered and run in accordance with the relevant rules Weights colts and geldings 9st 3lb, fillies 8st 12lb Entries 263 pay £ 2250 Confirmed 40 Penalty value 1st £277,521.54 2nd £113,552.53 3rd £50,519.07 4th £25,182.60 5th £12,616.95 6th £5,026.26" |
