GSS from S two days prior. Going Stick reading from 06:30am. Light to Medium Easterly Wind = Crosswind from Right in Home Straight. Rail out by long way on Bend and well in from Far Rail in straight but none of that noted on CoC's official report. Pair Hung from Far Rail to Stands Rail from 2F out to the line but this a relatively small distance compared to usual track width. Linguine a bit smaller than 2nd and running a bit freely overall. But a willing racehorse and kept at it well in last 2F and stayed well. That proved enough for the 'quirky' Ennistown who travelled well right up to comfortably closing the 1.5L lead Linguine had by before 1F out. Trouble started when de Sousa required Ennistown to go by the responding leader. Head in the air and started hanging and the swiftness with which the jockey resorted to maximum whip use suggested he was expecting this. Horse then more interested in hanging left than going past Linguine and could not be persuaded. Worth noting that de Sousa's lack of size and arm length means he gets unbalanced when trying to use the whip with maxium force. To wind up for maximum force and reach the horse's rump he has to shift his body and turn half around to reach that far back. |
