SUMMARY

GGF on day from GSG 2 days prior and temperature up to 20 Deg C during the afternoon. Going Stick reading from 08:00am.

Medium to Stiff NNW Wind = Quarter Tailwind from the Left.

Interesting race despite the small field. Effectively JPA and HR got 'hooked up' in a ragged wrestle for the lead which meant both of them underperformed. Hairy Rocket a lightning start and clear immediately and settled in the lead onm the rail. Left alone like that she might well have won. But JPA niggled along by Fallon early and took off with him. When he led after 1.5F going freely HR responded and they got involved in a brief tussle at the intersection over who would get the rail when it restarted. Meanwhile the hockey on Graphic Guest sat 5L off the lead at halfway and letting GG run her own race. With the leading pair starting to stall towards the last 1F GG closed up. She took some time to get going but staying on better at the end as HR faded.

Graphis Guest not prove herself as a real fast 5f here and has looked like she would be better for 6f. But has the size and scope to develop and rate higher. Channon website = "The fast pace certainly played into her hands on Monday, but she's shown that she's above average and there's more to come. I'm delighted for the Guest family as they've been long term supporters of both myself and George Margarson for many years and they are huge fans of the Royal Meeting. I just hope we can finally give them the success they deserve. All being well, we'll be able to take her there with a live chance. There's plenty of options and we'll narrow them down nearer to the date, but any of the five furlong races will be on the radar."

Hairy Rocket looks a different type and a ready 5f one lacking scope. A negative here in that she got broken by some pressure. If she ran in the Queen Mary she would be put under more pressure, for example.

JPA had shown in his previous runs that he does best when allowed to run his own race unhassled and fades when he gets into a battle with other horses and/or the jockey. Fighting both here and and early fade. Would have run better if Fallon had taken him to centre track to run his own pace alone.
