SUMMARY
GF from G 2 days prior with Watering on the Home Straight as 7mm the previous day. Going Stick reading from 06:30am. Stands Side Course in use.

Light to Medium NW Wind = Three-Quarter Headwind from the Right.

Meehan's website wrt Index Waiter = "...will probably benefit from this introduction." Presume Fallon riding at the owner's request. Fallon used to ride Group winner Waiter's Dream (aka New Greenfield in HK) for him in 2010. Meehan much more positive about IW in '2yos of 2012' which has finally appeared but despite the very late publication the intereviews are still from early April so much of it is very out of date before it arrives. Interesting to note that Meehan says about IW that he seems him starting in Mid-May at 6f. Peer at the Index List of Meehan debuts for 2010-11 and you could convince yourself that there is a 2 week+ period late May into June where he debuts a group of mostly season winners. The better ones make the 1st 4 FTO typically. The quote suggests that this late-May group is forming in Meehan's mind from early season and he works back from there to get the horses ready. He has two debuts today after a break from May 19th after some mostly so-so debuts through earlier to Mid-May. Is this the leading edge of the 'Winner Group'?

Hannon's website wrt Master Of War, waffle removed = "...who has done a couple of nice bits of work."

Varian on his website = "Morawij is a strong horse who is mature for his age. His work has been satisfactory so far and hopefully he will run a promising race. It is nice to get a two-year-old on a track on some decent ground."

Looked like a Slower pace with a lot of pulling early. First 11 through halfway within 2L of the Lead with a widespread bank of two intermixed lines stretching from Stands rail to Cente to Far Side. Notable that the three that raced widest (CON, MDundee & HOff) folding completely very early together. Draw bias or all three fading for different reasons? Worth noting that there were extended distances between the first 5 home with nearly 5L (a 'Time' 5L) back to the 6th and the three wide faders a Time 9L adirft. Strong finish by better types leading to an ok time off the pace or faster conditions?

Update = this part taken from Mark Johston's webpage 'Bletherings' for May 20th = "This morning we took six two-year-olds to gallop at Haydock on their newly refurbished track. I was most impressed. It looks in terrific condition and, despite the wettest spring in my memory it was remarkably good ground. I walked the track after the gallop and, although I could see each footprint, there were no divots turned over. On closer inspection I could put my finger about two inches into the toe of each hoofprint. I asked how Haydock would describe this ground and I was told it was Good-Soft. This is in stark contrast to the ground at Doncaster last night where the horses were turning over great clods of earth and returning with mud up above their fetlocks. It was certainly much softer than the Haydock ‘Good-Soft’ ground and yet it was described as ‘Good’."
