GF from GGS 2 days prior & no rain since previous Friday. Going Stick = 14:00. Stiff to Strong Easterly Wind = Half Headwind from the Left Another Fast Time this week with ground drying out quickly in a warm amd windy spell after weeks of cold and rain. This time the Fastest since start 2004 season by .09s and the previous faster by a McMahon trained filly who went on to win at Conditions level. Fast conditions on day with previous Apprentice handicap won in 58.27s by an OR47 rated 7yo carrying 6lb less plus an A5. Where's 'The Market' with a result like this? Satsuma bigger than anything else and a good mover. Crusing along next to the leader from early on like an adult in a kid's race. Quite impressive in clearing away. Trainer David Brown has already had 4 debuts of which 1 has won and the other three placed so no doubts he can 'ready one for debut' but this moose starts at 14/1. Trainer rents part of owner John Fretwell's Averham Park stables to train and that owner had Mixed Message in the race who was out at 10/1. Trainer McMahon tending to get debut wins later in season with better types and FTOs competent without being tuned. Trainer downbeat about MMessage in April stable tour saying she was 'not overbig' (i.e. small), 'on the weak side', need softer going because round action' (start her on a fast Downhill on GF despite that) and so on. Couldn't Brown have had a chat with Fretwell to tell him Satsuma was a good one? Lady Poppy a typical improver for George Moore who tends to start solid ones in the Brocklesby but his early season usable debuts often need to develop with racing after fades in earlier races. LP a good run in the lead here but Satsuma looming over her at halfway with the jockey motionless and just a matter of when she was going to be overpowered by the bigger filly. |
