Going the previous day GSS with the Going Stick reading 5.8 and GS today with the Going Stick at the same reading at 8:00 on the day of this race. No rain in last 24 hours. Medium to stiff wind, slightly stiffer than previous day, as a direct headwind. Channon gets his early season 5f win with a Sixties Icon. Check whether Red Koko develops better than the other two who look limited/small and both with nuisance attitudes at present. Piece on Channon's Website News sections from April 10th relating to this win = "A cause for real celebration for Norman Court Stud who both owned and bred VANESSA who took the two year old Musselburgh seller on Sunday. Indeed, VANESSA is by the Stud's very own Classic Winning first season sire SIXTIES ICON and represents his first ever winner. VANESSA took the contest in eye-catching style by five lengths, before going to Jim Goldie through the ring in the post race auction for £5,500. Mick was delighted for the filly, the stud and Sixties Icon. "I was chuffed with that - she's a filly with a super attitude and always showed us a willingness to get on with her work and she had some speed as well which the experts keep telling me is impossible with a St Leger winning sire. Every horse is an individual and she'll win again and will be a fun horse for nurseries. Jim Goldie's not a bad judge and will do well with her." A good example of a Trainer with a different background being able to bring a different view on horses. Having not been indoctrinated by other trainers and bloodstock agents from a young age as he worked his way up inside the reactionary industry. |
