G from GF on Decs. 2.5mm rain Wed, 1.8mm Fri & 3.8mm Sun. Watering 5mm Fri on "selected areas" & 3mm Sat am whole course. GStick 11:00am. 18DegC. Stiff ENE Wind = Direct Headwind to Hf then 3/4 Headwind from Left. Rail Out even further than for most meetings so far, 17yds at 6f pole to 8yds at Finish Line. Hannon jnr said before race STP & Constantine Sim qual horses and he thought Ev & 3/1 down to people inferring things from jk bookings, i.e. specifically saying that the 2nd String Effect was in play. He agreed that Constantine had shown less than expected on STO and hoped that was growing rather than an attitude issue. He said they had thought of gelding Constantine after the STO effort but instead wanted to give him one last chance to show what he could do. Moore on Constantine kept the horse wide of the pack (to keep him concentrated & no 'Head Up' here) and got going with the stick early and made the horse's mind up visibly. STP a qk brk and got over to the rail and able to set a CmfLd but has looked an OR73-4 type and not setting a stiff target. Osborne said that TDY hadn't developed how they had expected from early work and thought he wouldn't be capable of a maiden win and Nurs future. On PRev TDY an OR68-72 type so finishing just behind STP makes perfect sense on PRev but baffling for 'Form' readers or people just looking at 5/6f & 33/1. Race a good example of how PRev and following how horses develop takes away the bafflement with races like this. |
