SUMMARY
Snow Forecast for day with 2-4'' expected and to settle. Inspections at 08:00 & 09:00 showed course raceable with just a small amount of sleet by then. Set another inspection for 11:00 because snow still forecast for the morning. The radar map at 09:30 showed no rain/snow in NOTT & only light rain & 1DegC at DONC. The 09:30 map seemed to show the heavy precipitation much further west tham forecast and Wales/NW & Irish Sea under it. - Light rain to 11:00am and immediate decision to race. But changed going to SHV at 11:00am & NRs started rolling in after that.
Going S overnight and changed to SHV in am. Going Stick 5.9 on Thur 09:15am then 5.8 11:30am on Day. Half Tailwind from Left.

Some Jockey Notes = KirbyA riding for EvansPD = unusual? Kirby AW Season Champion & generally profile rising. Split of Brittain Jks? Mulrennan on BoA & Fentiman on Sleaford. Fentiman riding the trnr owned one & Mulrennan the btr one for syndicate? In later hcap Fentiman riding shorter SP one for Brittain & Mulrennan on 25/1 one for Midgley.

RACE & QUALITY NOTES :-
Slow race and 51st slowest of 59 since 2002 although a little quicker than Chiswick Bey on SGS in 2010. But race 'fell apart' effectively despite a usable pace AND a 20Mph half tailwind. Presume testing Conditions. Only winner finished the race off and others all fading by 0.5f out or earlier. Lack of major Southern stable reps & MaJo seemed to leave a competitive field but lacking longer term quality. First three ok for OR70+ but 4th v suspect & OR50s and then a case of looking at those behind 4th to see which ones were better than they showd.

Mick's Yer Man +ve on Blink look from 1/4 bhd on VT and ok sz and mature, rangy & smooth mover which also showed in last 1f. Turner said before race he thought MYM needed 6f so should stay ok. Bought by MWE as foal who put £20k reserve on him as yearling. Didn't go past that but Bill Turner pestered him (according to MWE) to let him have it and said he got 20k from Turner for it. David Easterby interviewed about another horse later said MWE had kept a share in MYM. Why still owned by Turner? Showed a willing attitude in finish and a good reaching action in front which worked on going without looking a round action. 7lb App mostly weight-for-free in simple race set-up. App While said afterwards he had been told to hold onto horse near lead then go on in last 2f. Horse broke well and jk able to sit next to Hanagan on LC & pair seemed to set a usable pace. MYM LoB and strong finish. Would presume he's a full season OR80ish but will rate higher in after early season.

Vodka Time typical taller & Narrow one from Evans and unusual confidence in him. Ped not that racy but ok Sz. Ran better than final result given the wide dw & slow start. Tv well to get into tracking postn. Ok effort to get to 2nd clear of LC before fading. OR75+ & solid STO.

Lord Clyde came with a 'not a superstar' note from Robin O'Ryan on day but then added the natural racer type of words to confirm the Fahey quote. at £15k he has profile to be an OR70s hcpr rather than an OR90 type. Mdm Sz and a bit more bulk in Fr than profile suggested. Panicked in stalls and had to be held by 2 handlers then hooded to settle down. Good brk despite that and tv ok in LdgPr. Lacked kick of first 2 then got tired before them early into last 1F. Fahey had said that and whole race played out like a tough test. Ok effort and type for OR70s & should find early Northern maiden but come up short above Mdn level before back to Nurs & vulnerable to a better (OR80s) lurker in a maiden = not a 'Penalty Kick' STO winner. Might make SP for something else.

Mops Angel Small & compact and looks OR50s on Pics. Slight niggle that she seemed to travel ok in 2R but bhd an ave pace. Blown away when bigger males made their efforts and well back at finish. Trnr had very good AW winter and MA more fwd in condition that the average? Her readiness and way she travelled suggested a fillies Auction race early ok for her but OR60s at inflated best and one to oppose in Open Maiden. MA somewhere on border between usable OR60s type & Garbage Gap. Which means anything behind needs an excuse even to aspire to OR60s usable type.

Dovil's Duel Rare early starter for Millman & first Brocklesby since PWhisper won it STO in 2005 in year when trnr won most of the early races. Since then has dropped into becoming a lost debut trnr & runners can improve greatly STO. The change seems to be partly jk used & type od horses bought. Trnr apparently has 2-3 zippy type this year and DD a marker for how the others go. Atzeni now the preferred jk & expected to enable better FTO efforts. Somehow got to 4/1f depsite playing up in PRIng (dropped jk on JU & then turning to avoid being mounted. Jk on after 25 yds of being led. But then 'bucking' when let go on AW strip TP. John Berry called this bucking 'pig rooting' on ATR as if it was just playfulness. B3 but then nvr going forward in rc & jk always active. Hanging then fading last 2f. Can improve a lot for behaving better & better, & faster 5f, but small & sotcky. Ligher bhd. Looks an OR60s type long term although could rate OR70+ early. Type to find a fast 5f maiden, poss AW, early then struggle higher and off early season OR he would get. Note that JM said DD had kicked the Box Driver to add to his list of misbehaviour.

Donny Rover small and not ready & looks a poor use of €95k & presume a god portion of that price ped related with 2 x usfl sibling. As expected trnr Smith had not been able to get him ready FTO. Looked off top form in cond & clueless in race. Showed something th get back to midfld after slow start then started hanging badly. Not one to follow & unproven trnr an issue.

Pick's Pinta more int and trnr started ok ones early in 2012 but needed FTOs. PP not ready in cond & not knowing enough. But 1st VP pic seems ok for OR70+. Ok to follow with check NTO.

Fuel Injection ok on paper but trnr a miserable record with 2yos recently and NONE of his 25+ early debuts in 02, 10-12 ssns have gone on to win. FIn poss for usable OR60s but clueless here. Trnr record a -ve. See how he present NTO. Fizzy in Pre-P & OT AP here.

Kraka Gym no picture avaliable & anonymous overall. Few view in PRing or AP. Seemed mdm size in grp and neat with that. Ran ok to hf then HgL & fading like many. Needs further Rev but trainer 4-13 with erl debs W-NW & that 4 split as two x ok FTO wnrs and 2 x seller/poor nur level. Seems unlikely KG would dev quickly on that and more a long term prospect to see whether he devs to be usable OR60s.

Mel Brittain ran two in 2012 & both showed up well at long SPs and ok winners. Prev Brocklesby starter prob ok. Two here clueless and never in race and adf together by hf. BoAvon ok Sz but spooky and green from entry to PreP. Poss a nuisance and thinker. Gave trbl ldg and sat back on her haunches to get the stalls handlers using straps off her backside then walked away looking unconcerned. Let Sleaford go unless low level or weak rc but BoAv one to track if she behaves btr.

Red Biba a small but neat one by new Sire Int Focus and poss typ of smaller ones of sire. Well prepared and broke well but soon hanging and got well back bec of that. Small and lacking scope but prob has more than showed on SHV here and could flower STO say in a weak AcF at WTON. Track STO.

SPLIFE MOTS = A fresh crop of two-year-olds kick start the new Flat season. Mick Easterby trained last year's winner but Kraka Gym's winning relatives all scored over longer trips and Lord Clyde makes more appeal. The latter's pedigree is packed with speed and Paul Hanagan's presence boosts confidence. Bill Turner has won this on numerous occasions so Mick's Yer Man is worth noting while both Sleepy Joe and Vodka Time hail from yards that tend to have their two-year-old representatives well forward at this time of year. Charles Smith runs a couple in the same colours and both are of interest. The 95,000euros colt Donny Rover is a half-brother to the useful Mac Love, who finished sixth in this contest on his debut, but a punt is taken on stablemate DONCASTER BELLE. She's an early January foal and may well be strong enough to give the boys a run for their money on her debut.

Simon Rowland Tweet at 12:50pm = Brocklesby provisional rankings: 1 Donny Rover. 2 Picks Pinta. 3 Dovil's Duel. 4 Mick's Yer Man. = How do you get the first two to come top? Ignore Trainer? Ignore Draw? Use just Pedigree??
