Cold Weather continues with Snow falling over much of Britain on Sat then slowly clearing. Forecast for LNGA on day is temp around 1DegC with odd snow flurry. Strong ENE Wind = Crosswind from Left out of chute, Direct Headwind Downhill, Slight Headwind from right in Home Straight. Poor stuff. OR62 rtd 3yo won next race (by 3.25L) carr 9-7 in 60.55. Prob equivalent to OR40s for the 3L clear winner and rest poor. Odd race with nothing really competent. 1st 2 at hf came from widest two stalls and sl slow brks and CarrRh. But smaller ones who got to rail slowed pace by bnd after 1F and Mselle & DLady able to get to lead cmf with Mselle settling Pc further downhill. Raised pace before bend and Mselle able to make eff in str to go clear despite being a bit green. Small and woolly on day. Bit more bulk than others & minor dev potl. But OR60s unless dev v well. Trainer NOTE for HarrisR = never used to get FTOs. Got one in messy race May 5 2012 as his first. In profile thought he couldn't produce a fto winner this early. Hard to say Mselle really changed that view given how poor the race was and just minor competence & a bit more bulk proved e here in a slow time. Still feel a real OR70+ one or even a proper OR60s zippy natural would have won clear here. Two colts not stand out in grp with SGold a bit taller but nrw & underpowered. El Duque small & not that ready & bit more bld. But SG spooky TP with IF and then gave trbl ldg. Once in stalls panicked twice getting head half down 1st time. 2nd Time part reared up & jk off. Just a tiny bit further by hrs on either occasion & wld have been out of rc. But, a sl surprise he ran. Ran as if brain fried by now and off the back and unbalanced most of race with head up and never responding to jk. OR50s poss when sttls down but he WAS the duff one of Evans' 2 x Brocklesby etns. ED bit green overall. Got out just 'ok' from ins stall but that gd enough to be in 1st two +0.5f. But crossed to rail and then got cut-off. But, lost ground back to 7th by being green. Took time to pick up in str and seemed to lack pace. Staying on at fin as if ok 6f+. But OR50s & seller type. Which left race bet 6 x small fillies and the two who ran vaguely competently got to lead from wide dws for little effort & controlled race from there. DLady small & apparent 2nd String & not one to follow. Hedy had looked ok mentally in work vids if small and underpowered. Report of 'scared' in prelims and green in rc. Blocked to str so took time to get going. Running on top line but another early 60s ab and poss a seller type. First runner for NCourt sire WWatson so MRC will press to get any win with her in erl poor rc. MMarq appeared a bit ment btr than most TP but then throwing head AP. Very small and ran 2R. Bumped bet RL dwnhill. Lacked kick to make any prg str then appeared to fail to stay. No interest. OLover v cheap and tiny 1yo. A bit btr in build here but still small & compact. No interest. Ran too free for 1st half of race & then hanging on bend. Minor effort Cent track but not showing enough to think STO wnr at low level = anything with mino zip/bld can beat her. IF small & nothing recommend her. Race Conds = £4,000 guaranteed For 2yo Weights colts and geldings 9st 5lb, fillies 9st Entries 13 pay £ 20 Penalty value 1st £2,726.80 2nd £805.20 3rd £402.80 RPost Card MOTS = No form to go on, but the obvious starting point is EL DUQUE, with his trainer´s first 2yo runner of the year bolting up in the Brocklesby. David Evans had the runner-up in that Doncaster race and runs two here, with Smugglers Gold perhaps the likelier of the pair, while M´Selle makes plenty of appeal on breeding SLife MOTS = Smugglers Gold is related to a Polytrack winner and makes more appeal than stablemate Intense Feeling and the Jo Hughes' runners Diamond Lady and Marilyn Marquessa. M'selle and Hedy have plenty of speed in their pedigrees and should be noted in the betting ahead of Outback Lover but a speculative vote goes the way of EL DUQUE. Bill Turner has already tasted success with his two-year-olds having won the Brocklesby at Doncaster on Friday and his Byron colt may be far enough forward to land this. |
