G from GFG. Watering prev Sat then "lightly" on Thu & Fri (despite the forecast for heavy rain). 25mm of rain of rain Saturday Evening into Sunday. Showers froecast for the day. GStick noon 22DegC. Stiff SW Wind = 1/2+ Headwind from Right Uphill, 1/4+ Tailwind from Right HS. Good example of how a horse being drilled enough to get to an efficient race position can make difference in a tight race. Bonuses seemed to brought together a competitive groupd of 60-70s types but with nothing oustanding able to overcome difficulties on raw ability. Back Lane able to ge to lead on rail (as on debut) and running straight and professionally enough. Similar types in 2nd & 3rd at hf unable to raise effort to gain on a sim type loos eon lead. Lincoln another slow start on the rail then shuffled back more and a good example of how Draw 1 a bad thing if the horse can't use it. Shared Equity able to keep up with the competitive types in 1st-4th so was the real 1stCols. Big gap back from competitive 5 to a ruck of runners who were too small & limited of had excuses. Abisko blew the break a long way then got ground back too quickly so worth another go. Bounty Girl running ok at Hf with the competitive ones if 2Wd. But no real resp at 2F an just allowed to drift back by Jk and not looking that 'well', Offshore bond drawn wide and having to be driven along throughout then unbal into str and eased. Gulland Rock ought to be OR68-73 on Pic but lost ground quickly on debut and a slower start here and hustled along then the same lack of an effort last 2f. Either 'Hole' in him somewhere ot being broght along for Nurs. Odd race sponsorship. As well as being a £10k Yearling Bonus race this is titled a "Sunday £5k Bonus Race". Not sure what that is unless an attempt to stop Sunday racing being dire quality if flat racing at all. Penalty Value of race is £6,489 before the £10k bonus. |
