G from GGS on Decs. 7mm rain overnight. GStick 09:00am Rails fully in. 19DegC. Stiff+ SW Wind = 3/4 Headwind from Left HS. Headwind before turn. Hannon Jks = Hughes (War Spirit), Moore (ATGoldrush), DaviesWT (Filosofo), Hangan (UMWing) Hannon website pre-race = "We run four in the two-year-old maiden. Three of them have had a run, and After the Goldrush showed a lot of promise first time out at Salisbury but is parked out in stall 17. I know Magic City won from 18 on Tuesday, but it is still a huge negative. Hughesie has opted for the newcomer, War Spirit. He has a cracking draw in one and is one who we have always liked. He was ready to run at Newbury in April, but we opted to take a pull with him and he is back working well again now. He has one grey leg which is strange." Crowley fides Allergic Reaction for KnightWJ rather than Pack Leader for his Sister-in-law. Slower time than for the following Nurs but prob an Ave pace. Field seemed to get split into Two Distinct Parts around Bend and perhaps treat them separately and v little overlap at the finish. First Part the first 6-7 through Hf got going ok and settled into a longish thread. The race between them then developed as Mime Dance pressing on a bit too hard and fading into the last 1f. War Spirit sent forward by Hughes from Dw1 & got to a good spot but either failed to stay or had pulled too hard. Not eyecatching FFH but a Bit Fre & never Settled through the first half of the race. those 3rd to 5th at Hf but a bt further back and settled get promoted to fill first three places. 6-7th at Hf were GCentral & outpaced as soon as Mime Dance wound pace in straight & SirCKunz who looked another non-stayer on the day. Those from 8th+ at Hf are then effectively in a different race bec the front 7 are going a usable pace and are spread over 7L at Hf and going a usable pace. Those from 8th+ simply are not going to get into the race (one caveat in Golden Town). They are spread 8-14L back at Hf and either wide draws looking to drop in, or green, or ridden for an Educ Intro. Most of those in second race never get involved and UMWing & Sellingallthetime on the rail in Midfield at Hf manage to po to be just behind the fading leader Mime Dance at the line. A story which hangs together with the obvious exception of Golden Town Took time to get going and HdL & HgR ins-2f. But took off once taken out to Centre for a sustained run down the outside & miles better than any other Closer. What did that actually amount to? |
