G from GGS on Decs. 7mm rain overnight. GStick 09:00am Rails fully in. 19DegC. Stiff+ SW Wind = 3/4 Headwind from Left HS. Headwind before turn. Fahey pre-race = "I've three runners in the Nursery. Mr Carbonfootprint surprised us a little when winning over six furlongs on debut as we felt he wanted seven. He's a horse who's been very keen which is why we've been patient with him. He's maturing well now, is quite a nice horse and we're hoping he runs a very big race. Shot In the Sun is quite well handicapped on her form and Sammy Bell is taking another seven pounds off. The same owners also have Latenightrequest in the race and she'd have an each-way chance too. We've a strong team for this but it's very competitive." Race faster than the preceding Maiden but not a strong pace here. 1st 3 home were in a stack on the rail from early on. Hughes like a man trying to balance a full tray through 1st 5f with Art Official swtg and pulling. Able to produce a strong effort off that ins-1f anyway and just looked a bigger and stronger horse. Stalling late on. In preceding race only one horse able to close out of the ruck onto the prominent horses who had a soft time up front. That was Golden Town who switched to Centre Track and seemed to 'Take Off' for the last 1F+. Similar here with the only strong Closer being Our Queenie in rear on the Rail at Hf. Switched out to race Centre track last 1.5F and showed a similar strong Close. As with this Effect at LNGA the question arises over whether the strong finish (relative to other horses Midfield+ at Hf) is in anyway caused by a faster strip of ground, OR, just indicative that the Wide runs are where a horse can get a clear run and get into full stride rather than getting blocked and having to weave on an inside run. |
