G from GS on decs. 19.5mm rain Fri. GStick 09:30am. 19DegC. Medium to Light Southerly Wind = 1/2+ Tailwind from Left Daft antics from Noble Asset mean it is better to watch the VT of the race once through ignoring him since he confuses things. An entirely believable race otherwise with STLimit getting a lead followed by PMyla (2R & Competent run) & eventually TPrincess (after a slower start and got going around Hf). Other pair smaller and left behind after half. STL make just an ok effor to make about 1L on PM until she fades late. TP a bit smaller than PM but stays better to get past her. Traditionelle a competent 1st 3f and looking usable 50s but fades early. 70s colt, with a Cmf lead, sees off 60s and worse fillies, so what. Noble Asset a bit bigger than STL and never settled and pulling hard and HgR and carrying STL out with him around Hf. STL gets past NAsset ins-2f and you would think NA would prob fade. But NAsset gets going again on FrRL having lost 2L to STL. SwcR from Rail to Cent-0.5f+ then rallies to overlap STL ins-0.5f and Head him 1-2 strides beyond the line. SEnq post race because STL hung right when challenged late by rallying NAsset. Stewards found intereerence had taken place but not improved STL's position. Another of a crop of recent examples where the hanging horse never gets demoted. Rumblings have started in various places that the rules are now too lax and that Jockeys are in a position where they have a choice between winning a race and allowing the hanging and risking a ban. Or, taking action to straighten the horse and poss losing the race. The rules being a 'Licence to use intimidating riding at present'. In a Group race any jockey would take a holiday. At a lower level most would prob take the winner first. MPR website background to Marlismamma follows. Lots of positive and hopeful stuff but none about the filly. Since she cost €2,000 (never mentioned) what relevance is her dam being a 270k purchase? How do they know she was retired to injury? Reading Karawan's form she won a weak Northern 3yo maiden in a slow time and disappeared having shown nothing at 2yo. The 270k was purely a 'Broodmare Buy', surely. What relevance is a £21k payday for winning a French maiden? Whatever, she was bought as a 'Now' April 2yo and she's making her debut in late August so that part has failed. :- "This Turtle Bowl filly was bought by David O Meara and Nick Bradley at the Arqana November Sales in 2012. Both David and Nick have decided to target the French sprint division races for 2yos in 2013 by not only buying 3 french bred yearlings but also by buying a lot of sprint bred yearlings from the UK sales. This filly is from the mare Karawan who was bought by Hamdam Al Maktoum for £270,000 and trained by John Gosden in the UK. She won a Thirsk Maiden and looked a progressive horse rated 77 when injury ended her racing career. She is from a strong racing famiy being a full sister to Common Grounds and a half sister to the good racing mare Angel In My Heart who went on to produce the Derby winner ‘Kris Kin’ as a broodmare. We went to France to buy fillies and this filly caught our eye immediately, she looks every inch a 2yo who will be sharp and early. She walks well, hasa good strong shoulder to her and has plenty of power behind the saddle. Turtle Bowl is a stallion who stands in France, he has had two crops of his progeny race to date and he has already produced the Group One winner ‘French Fifteen’ who was a prolific 2yo in France winning five times including the Group One Grand Criterium. He also sired Lucayan who won the Group 1 Poule D’Essai Des Poulains as a 3yo at Longchamp. This filly is eligible for French Premiums which gives the owners a 75% premium on top of the prize money stated on the racecard which is usually £12,000 for a Maiden at the PMU tracks, so that means that the owners pick up over £20,000 for winning a Maiden. Racing Plan == This filly is already ridden, the aim is to have her ready for a track debut in April or May. She will be campaigned in both the UK and France, specifically the racecourses around and north of Paris. It is likely that he will be sold at the end of the season. We anticipate her racing trip to be 5 to 7 furlongs." |
