GGF as on Decs. GStick 10:00am Rail Out by 4yds from 7f Pole to -2.5f Cutaway. CoC reports this adds "4yds" to Race Distance. Too low an estimate as usual for sloppy SDWN. 22DegC. Medium+ WSW Wind = Close to Direct Headwind in HS. Hannon Jk orig were Hughes on Exchequer (1st String for owners), Dobbs on Black Caesar & Fortune (back from where?) on NR Dover The Moon. Race quickly settled down to usual, unhelpful and uncompetitive format with a front group of 4 well in race prominent, then a long straggle of horses (lacking nous, ability, or being strangled) from midfield back who are out of the race before the bend is reached. If you look at how long the bend is and how far the rail is out how can SDWN's CoC say it adds an extra 4yds, it's preposterous. As with things like NMKT never reporting which sides the stalls are going to be on, the BHA having a facility to place data on is fine but who's checking the Quality? Look at the Hf to Final positions tells a lot of the story, 1st 4 already in place on turn to bend and only others with vague chance in 5th to 7th but already giving a good head start. Hannon jockeys here to compete today so Exchequer allowed to go to the lead (rather than the Hughes ride here where he 'settles' them out of race at the back with the others). Dobbs, at least trying to get into the race on Black Caesar even if it means going 2Wd around the bend. Only two changes of position worth the name with Ensuring getting from a settled 2R pos on rail around bend to win. More strikingly, what did Berkeley Vale achieve? = Made 7L from Hf. Railed well and ran up Open RL in Str. Also had made 3L+ in the -3f Creep Zone. Prob 10th byt-2f+ and Ave effort to be 6th -1f for full ride. Did continue to make effort until a late stall though. Check what that 'Closing' effort converts to on later runs. |
