GGS from GF on Decs. 18mm Rain Fri. GStick reported as 6.6 at 07:30am, But has figures for the HS as 5.8 Stds & FrSd, 5.9 Cent. Where do those figures come from? 15DegC. Medium Southerly Wind = Direct Tailwind HS. Just an Average pace and field raced Centre HS. Pace held up ok with smaler Imshivalla fading Lt while Remember seeing race out well . Mostly believable place shuffling behind & no deep closing just the field, aside from winner, compressing at finish as some folding in front back to some po from bhd. Hatti smallest and held up after leading last twice. Another flat effort from Neighbother. Major exceptions to note were how quickly and tamely Bow Creek & Zeshov were under pressure, losing places then fading when the pace increased in HS. Both went from going ok in 2R to looking unbalanced and floundering by 2f out. Then falling back through field. WTRB about Zeshov said he didn't handle the GGS which seems reasonable on how he moved in the HS. No WTRB about Bow Creek who has run ok here before on GS. One thought looking at the SP display before this race. Prices spread from 7/2 out to 33/1. Look at the SP list and it is close to being in racecard order. Only a sample of 1 but you could propose three 'groups' of SP zones within the list. Which means that despite how much back-slapping the BHA handicappers hand out to each other the 'General View', as displayed by the Market pre-race, would be that the handicapper had done a poor job. A huge range of 'probablities' when the BHA aim to is to give every horse the same chance to win. Looking at the way the SPs 'group' you could easily propose some underlying causes which the BHA guy should look to address. But, despite the paramount position of Levy maximization in most BHA activities, the BHA handicappers do not judge their 'success' by SP Markets and turnover. Instead they use 'Distances at the Finish' which are random to some extent and depend upon many factors which have nothing to do with OR marks such as Race Pace, trainer & jockey agendas, and so on. Wouldn't SP range and year-on-year turnover be more useful measures? |
