S from GGS on decs. Usual lack of any info about Rain, etc. Stalls Stands' Side. GStick Noon 17DegC. Light+ Westerly Wind = Close to Direct Headwind HS. Chartlon website pre-race = " Dark Leopard makes his debut, he is a neat but strong colt by Dubawi from the family of Pounced who won the Breeder’s Cup as a two year old. He should run well, but there could be plenty of competition from Cape Wrath trained by Richard Hannon and in the same ownership." Pipe Dream bought as an early 2yo for 2yo oriented owners. In 213 Meehans says he expects him to be running over 5-6f by May. Why the hold-up? Mixed Breeze VT for Stan Nineteen Looks ok ready 2yo of Sire type. But rider struggling to hold him and get him gathered before the 2f pole. Horse thens runs too free in 1st 1f, not balanced and high action in front = trying to do everything at once and not professional. Gets tired in last 1f and looks to gallop better but HgR and tiring by finish. Despite Baker's regularly pleas (excuses?) about how his 2yos all come on for the run that hasn't shown up in another inconsistent season. Still doesn't seem to know how good his horses are, how to get them to run consistently and show progression nor how to win. Has had 4 individual winners so far with 1 x FTO win (run poorly since Ready FTO win and claimed off him out of seller the day he declared the horse for a big sales race = typical lack of a plan), and 3 others who finish 2nd (2) or 3rd FTO. Feels like the horses have to have the talent to win anyway, rather than the trainer making the best of each individual. Field raced Stands' Rail. Early pace Average but dropped+1.5f and field stacked. Turned into a 2F spr and with Ldrs on rail dropping back as a roadblock the 1st 3 home made Prg wide. But 1st 2 pulling away as if better than rest. Nissaki Kasta just asked to do enough to get to Clear 3rd then Jk let 1st 2 go. |
