S an Decs. No info about Rain. GStick 06:00am. Stalls Centre. 16DegC. Stiff+ Southerly Wind = Close to Direct Headwind in HS. High Stand a very rare late 6f debut for Stoute. Majority of debuts 7-8f and 5f hardly ever. 6f used for early competitive 2yos when he starts having runners in mid-summer. In recent seasons only 1 x later 6f debut with the latest mid-Sept. High Stand has a 2yo pedigree so presume some delay. In recent seasons the October debuts all 7-8f with 1-3 season winners mixed in and these will either win FTO or run a strong place and then turn out 'quickly' to win STO before the Turf Season ends. This is Stoute's 31st FTO of season and only 2 have been less than 7f. His first runner on June 3rd (by Sea The Stars, ran poorly & not run since) and a rare 5f on June 30th in a Conds race for a later winner. Only the 3rd debut in Oct with one strong 2nd over 7f on Oct 9th & not run since. What to expect of High Stand? Presumably delayed start for some issues. W Jarvis wrt Ametrine in 213 = "The most expensive 1yo we have.... not big...on the weak side at present. ..needs to grow another inch." He also notes the sire - Fastnet Rock - has an "outstanding record in Australia". He was a Gr1 5-6 winner at 3yo but only Graded placed at 2yo over 6-7f. Had 23 x 1yos sold in 2012 for a 90k ave & 60k mediun. 2yo runners in 2013 haven't made the impact expected. To date has had just 5 individual runners and 2 of those have run once. The other three are fillies who have all won once at maiden level (5f, 6f & 8f) & tried higher class races with only Dorothy B competing well (OR100+ with other pair OR79-85 range). Race run in 1.58s slower than the later Nursery winner who carried 4lbs less. This field race Centre Track mostly while the Nurs winner ran the Stands Rail after Hf, which seemed an Adv. |
