S as on Decs. 4mm of Rain Overnight. GStick 10:30am Far Side Course in use. Stalls FrSd 15DegC. Stiff to Strong WSW Wind = 1/2 Tailwind from Right. Haggas interesting in 213 wrt Mutakayyef = "nice moving... if he's got a change of speed he'll be a good horse. He's such a nice mover though and those types don't always quicken so he could just be a galloper... wait & see. ..Backward.. " Mixed pace with field starting off Ave Pace with Pretzel leading having aced the break but then headed by Capers Royal Star pulling to the lead and the free-running Stetchworth (MaJo) pulling forward to join that one.But pace slowed and field well stacked at Hf with the slower starters cmf back on back of Grp by+3f. Only first two home made VTLns to Fin with Mutakayyef at just +1VTL. Most of VTL losses seemed to be ability to make lesser efforts than the first 3 homes who made strong efforts in 2f+ sprint to separate themselves. Not much Hf to Finpos mixing other than freer running LdgLns folding back and the odd bad fade. Why is Moxey so poor? Prob ran a bit btr than final Est with an ok po/SHgR-2f, but then fading like a non-stayer ins-1f. Check 3yo Devt, must have more to show. Can usually trust a MaJo runner not to die wondering. In a sample of 71 of his debuts so far in 2013 then 13 have lead at Hf and 34 (48%) in the first 3 at Hf. 46 (65%) have been within 3L of lead at Hf FTO. Take away the clueless ones and not much left out of the 71. For a comparison if you look at Gosden's FTOs then in a sample of 43 of his 2013 FTOs NONE have lead at Hf and only 6 (14%) have been 2nd/3rd. His 4 x FTO winners have been 5th, 7th and 2 x 14th. Only 42% have been within 3L at Hf despite more longer distance debuts & slower paces. Check how the Debut HfPos & LBL maps to Subsequent winners = RAG display. |
