SHV from S on Decs. 5mm Rain Overnight. GStick Noon Stalls Centre. 18DegC. Stiff to Strong SSW Wind = Mostly X-Wind From Left. Interesting to think about Roger Charlton's comments on his website. This is the pre-race bit = "Dark Leopard runs at 2.00pm having finished second at Newbury on his debut but unfortunately the form of his race is not working out, with seven subsequent runners all being well beaten including the winner Cape Wrath. Most sons of Dubawi seem to operate on soft ground so I am hopeful." Most of the rest of his comments on his 3 other NWBY runners are Pedigree Lite stuff around relations & going. Charlton always comes across as a thoughtful chap but does his thinking about race form, horse quality & going requirements really not show any worthwhile difference to a Slack Pundit? If this is the level the 'Professionals' are at then the Pundits can get away with anything. Point 1 = Surely by this time of the year he must have a good idea (at least in 5-10lbs range) how good Dark Leopard is. He isn't having to use 'Future Form' from a debut race, is he? Point 2 = The race DL made his debut in was clearly flawed by any simple time or shape analysis. To expect those behind the first 2 (who pulled clear together despite the slow pace) to compete well in open maidens on what they showed is just wrong. So why is he bothered about how "the race is working out"? Point 3 = Cape Wrath was LAME after his poor run this week and that is in various notebooks & records. Charlton's 'reading' of the Future Form is badly flawed. etc. |
