GSG by race time with 4mm of rain by 14:30pm. G from GF on decs after 12mm of rain Thu through to 05:30am of Fri. Further rain forecast for the day of up to 4mm. Rail Out by 5yds for the entire race distance. CoC estimates this "increases the distance of all races by approximately 12 yards.". Medium ESE Wind. 3/4 Headwind in the HS. 81.96s on GSG?? Unsatisfactory race with a very slow pace and a less than 2F sprint tacked on at the end once they had turned into the HS. Poor form level and way the race was run told us only a little new about the horses. Race Value made worse by rain and easing going. One of those classic small-field Conditions races which had less quality and spectacle than needed for the prize money pumped into it. One of the reasons there are very few left these days. Bond's Girl a smaller medium one and presumably raised above 70 by her loose and rangy movement. Handled the going well and prodcued the best kick in the sprint. But not telling us anything about how she would fare in a full on 6f race against 80+ types. Jockey on Kasb allowed to take the lead on the rail in the first 1f and perhaps it had been agreed beforehand. All the other jks holding their horses up after the starts and the Jk BG keeping off the rail and looking back to see where Kasb was before allowing him to move forward to lead on the rail. Kasb then setting a very slow pace as if the jk thought he could comfortably win. Kasb bulkier than BG but not much bigger in frame and range. In the sprint he either didn't handle the going or just doesn't have the same range of movement as BG and comfortably overtaken. Connections will probably blame the going or say there was something wrong with the horse. If they blame the pace then it's their own fault. Look back to Kasb's debut race and he got well behind and finished well in a race with a strong pace where the pace collapsed. He hadn't shown the basic pace BG had FTO. Presume he will look better closing onto leaders in strongly run races. With Kasb prob and 80s type and 4/9f then a low quality Class 2. Buccaneers Vault also not able to pick up as well as the rangier BG on the going and just an average effort. Mylaporyours held back furthest and the worst puller in behind and then taken wide in the HS. Had no chance of making any gound and an ok run in the circumstances. Cabbies Lou had got outpaced at times in her previous two races and then staying on at the finish. Which meant a short sprint like this race exposed her lack of pace. But, a lower 60s one probably. |
