SUMMARY

Strong to Stiff SSE Wind = 1/4 Tailwind from the Right in the HS. Mostly a Headwind on the Bend.

Odd Race Set up in the HS with the bulk of the Field running wide off the bend and ending up spread over Centre Track by the finish. Sky Steps producing a strong and sustained effort for the Grade from 3-4 wide into the HS and racing widest at the finish. Meanwhile racing alone on the Far Rail in the HS Lucy The Painter went the shortest home to her win. If this were the US the 'Trakus' figures would tell us that Sky Steps ran 50 feet further (or whatever) than LTP.

Before the race Charlie McBride was interviewed with the caption saying he was the 'Assistant Trainer' which explains the P. J. initials for the trainer with the full licence. This is another 'Quinlan' set-up where the more sociable brother does the on-course representing & speaking.

Jk Drowne interviewed after the race and said he had been disappointed with her 3TO run at KTNA where she didn't pick up in the HS but did here. Which will be useful to tell the Stewards when they ask about the 4TO improvement here.

Stewards' Enquiry Text 1 = "The Stewards held an enquiry to consider the apparent improvement in form of the winner, LUCY THE PAINTER (IRE), ridden by Steve Drowne and trained by Peter Makin, which had never previously been placed. They interviewed the trainer’s representative who stated that the filly was better suited by getting a clearer run and also by the faster surface. Having heard her evidence they forwarded her explanation to the British Horseracing Authority so that the previous performances of LUCY THE PAINTER (IRE) could be reviewed. They ordered the filly to be routine tested".

Stewards' Enquiry Text 2 = "The Stewards noted that PAFIYA, placed fourth, jumped left and TREATY OF YORK (IRE), placed third, jumped right leaving the stalls interfering with the winner, LUCY THE PAINTER (IRE), and SKY STEPS (IRE), placed second, but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence".
