Rain before and during Meeting and going Officially changed from SHV to HV after Race 3 (the 3 x 2yo races the first 3 on the Crad). Given the times and wholsale collapses in the Maiden races and 10L Nursery winner seems more sensible to use HV. SHV from GSS on Decs after 13mm of Rain in 24hrs to 06:30am. More rain forecast on the day. Stiff to Medium SSE Wind = Close to Direct Crosswind from the Left. Stalls Stands Side. Breeze Video for Frangarry (from way back in mid-April) shows a medium one and young looking. Seems to show a fastish action but it looks hard work and he doesn't seem to use any range and quite straight legged. Tires of using a faster action into the last 1f and not really going forward much by the finish. Has the 6-7 months since seen him develop a better action with some range? How fast is it? If he still has a faster & short one does that mean an early fade on the likely Soft, or worse, going? Trainer Shaw has added a record of 0/44 from 10 individual 2yo runners so far in 2014 to his appalling overall record and adds two more debuts today for long-suffering owner Brian Johnson. Mr Johnson the owner of 11 of the 12 juveniles Shaw has declared in 2014 for a total sales purchase price northwards of £200,000 before training fees, etc. To use a very out-of-date joke reference then What? has Shaw got on Johnson and where does he keep the negatives? The Market has negative respect for Shaw and will mark his debut runners up at any price no matter what they cost. Invectus Hero cost £60,000 at the inflated-by-Ascot-fever London Sales in June. What price would he be on debut trained by Hannon, or Varian. To take a less obvious example then if Johnson really wants Shaw to do the training then get someone else to do the buying, give yourself some chance. Perhaps whoever did the buying for new trainer Martin Meade at the 2013 sales. A look at Invectus Hero's Breeze Video makes you worry about how disorganised he will look on debut. Looks a solid size and deep bodied by gawky with a long neck and somewhat ugly head. Starts off his breeze with his head way up like a giraffe and part bounding fighting the rider's hold. Shows a faster action but no control and an enthusiast trying to do everything at once. Looks better in the second 1f when he tires a bit and gets into more of a rolling pace within himself. But, another showing little KA & average range at most once he settles down. Lots of ways for him to reduce himself to a walk quite early on the Soft going here. Perhaps Mr Shaw will have turned him into a consummate, push button, professional. Stop laughing. One last Dose of the Super Hyperactive Sales Blurb from Middleham Park Racing to ponder around and question. Also to do what no-one else ever seems to and go back and match the Hype to the Reality of the 2yo season. Given Gerrard's Slip starts his 2yo career on the last day of the season in an Open Maiden then things have not gone to plan. MPR Blurb wrt Gerrard's Slip = "". |
