Rain before and during Meeting and going Officially changed from SHV to HV after Race 3 (the 3 x 2yo races the first 3 on the Crad). Given the times and wholsale collapses in the Maiden races and 10L Nursery winner seems more sensible to use HV. SHV from GSS on Decs after 13mm of Rain in 24hrs to 06:30am. More rain forecast on the day. Stiff to Medium SSE Wind = Close to Direct Crosswind from the Left. Stalls Stands Side. One last Dose of the Super Hyperactive Sales Blurb from Middleham Park Racing to ponder around and question. Also to do what no-one else ever seems to and go back and match the Hype to the Reality of the 2yo season. Given Gerrard's Slip starts his 2yo career on the last day of the season in an Open Maiden then things have not gone to plan. For the Recors Lexington Rose has struggled as a 3yo and never was the 'Black Type' 2yo they suggest. She was a small one who got near the front of a Dire Edition of the Marygate. Lexington Rose started her 3yo career on OR73 and won a poor race off OR70 at 3yo and has run unplaced in 5 subsequent races as her OR drifts back down. Sine GSlip cost £15k why can't they just say they expect to be able to win a 2yo race with him and perhaps rate 70+ and be a solid handicapper in the 60s as a 3yo? Looking at the Pictures of GS on the MPR website and he looks small and size limited on his sales picture and better built in front and something lacking behind. His later picture at Smart's yard doesn't suggest he has changed much. A small one who has missed the early season 'Auction' boat and, on size, is he OR60+ as a handicapper now? MPR Blurb wrt Gerrard's Slip = "Bryan Smart knows Captain Gerrard and his progeny like no one else. Captain Gerrard has had a great start to his career at stud siring 10 individual winners to date (03/09/2013). Middleham Park Racing have done very well with Captain Gerrard thanks to the dual winner and the 2nd highest rated progeny of Captain Gerrard who missed out on black type by the narrowest of margins. She has won a yearling bonus and 2 BOBIS for her owners along the way making her the highest earning progeny of Captain Gerrard. When we purchased our son of Captain Gerrard we did so based on the very strong resemblance that he gave both ourselves and more importantly Bryan of both Lexington Rose and the sire. We see this Colt as a sharp, early 2 year old who should be campaigned in a similar manner to that of Lexington Rose. Bryan and MPR have proved that it is a partnership that works and we are looking forward to another season of success with this colt. We will be campaigning our colt in median auction races. We expect him at this stage to be our early in the coming flat season most likely over the minimum trip. He is an exciting prospect for owners.". === Post Race === First Division raced Centre track with the Stands Side of that Group doing best. 5 raced Stands Side in this Division and finished in the first 5 places and strung out. Those racing Centre, mostly Trees on Profile, Adrift and fading by 2f out. Check whether the smaller Cooper got to the head of that Group from a slow start from the widest Draw. |
