S by race time with rain starting before the meeting started. This race 1. GSS from GS on Decs.9.5mm Sat and 3.5mm Mon am. Rail out by 10yds at 6f Start down to 4yds at the Finish Line. . Rail well Out and field raced off the rail before the intersection and then in Centre Track in the HS. Orobas a mixed Breeze Video. On physicals looks a smaller one but with ok build. Once he settles down late in the Breeze he moves ok and stretches out fine. Better VT than his low (25k at a sale where 1.15M was the Top price & 10th highest 210k). The big problem with the breeze is that he starts out on the Cent-FrSd of the wide NMKT straight then starts FFH and hanging and the rider lets him hang over to the Stands Rail. After that he responds ok and does a reasonable gallop. Freddie Meade, son of Martyn, the assistant trainer interviewed after Bazzana getting wound up in PRIng. Said she was typically on-her-toes at home but this looked more awkwardness than 'cheerful dancing'. He also said that his father had gone out to buy some early 2yos. They are looking to get early winners to advertise the yard as his father becomes a full time trainer from 2014 and becomes targetted on the Flat. Post Race Freddie Meade interviewed again and an odd set-up with the trainer's rep having to calm the interviewer down and point out Bazzana had only won an Auction race on bad ground and the Meade's wouldn't be challenging the Hannon's as the 2yo 'Kings' just yet. Odd to see that the young men that own Bazzana in partnership all seemed very similar to Freddie, chubby Public shoolboys who didn't seem to be old enough to shave but bulky. UPDATE = When the interviews with the written media were reported the tone was different to the TV ones. Reports there that Bazana had improved a lot at home since FTO and book a place in the Albany with this win. Seems more like a filly who handles the going well and do ok in Novice and the Albany would just be a Day OutBazzana small and low 60s looking but always travelling best and staying on well, as she had done FTO. Only horse handling the going and fit enough or does Bazzana has some OR70+ ability allied to receiving weight as joint bottomweight here? Probably hard to compare time directly for Div I to Div II because still raining. Majenski with an inexperienced A7 riding having run miles too free STO after a hidden debut. Majenski free TP with the A7 and then tore off in the lead over 6f on testing ground. Which means you would think she will go back to a fast 5f once qualified for Nurseries and perhaps taught how to race properly and with a jk who can control her. She must have to run again and show some worthwhile form to get an OR mark? Jk Baker interviewed before the race and said that the trainer had said to him Orobas would need the run but should be ok. Orobas drawn next to Bazzana and only 1L or so slower out of the stalls. But Baker (competing with Spencer careerwise for hold up 'King') then hauled Orobas back way too far to eventually sit last. Giving the impression he would have carried holding the horse back to be last whatever that gave up in terms of lengths. On slow ground that meant had given up any chance of competing to place. |
