GSS as on Decs with 2mm of Rain by 06:30am and between 6-9mm forecast for the day. Medium to Stiff NNE Wind = 3/4 Headwind from the Right. Caltra Colleen last 2 x Work Vids = 6th May working with Persun & River Spirit and green -1f+ and loses ground to other too but then works hard to hold onto them in the last 0.5f (going flat out & other pair not). Smaller than Persun. May 18th works with unraced Malabar and again with a very poor and small 3yo as the lead horse (Nutbush = unr 2yo, beaten 9L+ in 4 x 3yo runs 2014 in poor maidens). Similar Sz to Malabar but jk on CC stands up-0.5f and allows Malabar to make slightly heavy weather of getting in front of the tiny Nutbush. Field raced Centre and a Notably slow pace, poss -2. Whole field in a tight group at Hf but then spread out in a wide line in the last 2F spread from Cent-Stds to Cent-FrSd. Only one slower time in 39 races at distance since start of 2010 and that in a 3 runner race on HV. Poor form in absolute terms and fillies need to be judged on PRev going forward & not on form level. 2011-12 editions were won by Ryan FTOs with one useful. The rest of those fields mostly empty. Another FTO winner in 2013 but from 2 fillies with ok form at this level and more depth that the previous 2 years. This race looking moderate to poor quality on Profile and nothing looking real Open Maiden level in the VRev. Hard to work up any enthusiasm for any of the 7 going foward and a plodathon in the last 2f and a bit paindul to watch. Assuming CC is some sort of lower to mid 60s then she looked average in the group and with a KA and lacking pace. Channon will find something but probably 7f+. Similarly, the usual suspect trainers tend to get subsequent winners if there are any so respect for Fahey says Flatcapper will win but another looking slow and sub-70 here. Russian Punch eventually separating herself after running green then having trouble finding a gap despite the field being spread widely across the course. Won a little comfortably and staying on but in a slow race and poor time. |
