S from GS on Decs. 8mm of rain to 07:00am and rain forecast to continue through the am and early pm. Medium to Stiff ENE Wind = Half Tailwind from Right. Brando a smaller or typical 'Medium Piv' of the usual shape and build and a readier shape than usual. On the plus side of his Breeze VT a willing runner who put's his head forward and down and uses the balanced length he has. On the downside he looks a bit green and gets unbalanced in places and doesn't finish the breeze off. How bulky does he look on the day or become a 'readier' type since the breeze? How does the 'Prince' do in delivering a composed 2yo debut run? Pendlebury's mid-March Work Galop VT has him classified around the 70 mark along with Jersey Bull. Pendlebury worked on 20th May with unraced pair of First Class Mail & Harlequin Striker and going better than those 2 and allowed to finish first ahead of the Lead Horse (seems a part of the prep for FTO). HStiker always puched along in that work as he always seems to be and a slow learner and prob a slow mover. FCMail had to judge just on that. Also hard to say what Pendlebury achieved in that work. 214 comments suggest he might be better than a 70-72 one. Red Icon medium or smaller medium in the group. Very fit for the day and sweatting at the start and a bit free throught he first half of the race. Able to make a solid effort to win but hanging in the last 1F. Left the impression there are better horses behind who who less highly tuned for the day. 75ish. Intiwin similar type to RIcon, perhaps a bit more lightly made but also fit for the day. But, green in the first part of the race and dropped last+0.5f and then switched left to race Far Side of the Group as he made some ground back before Hf (a good example of where the Draw Number is meaningless without knowing where the horses actually ran). Solid effort in the last 2F including an extra minor kick 1F out. Another mis-70 and ok for a middling, or lower, Northern maiden. Grigorio another wild one in the prelims for MaJo and most of the usual green problems and for long periods. But, mostly competent in the race and racing settled. Lacking the forward effort of the first two 2f out but fine for a FTO horse. Bigger frame than the first two although just a medium build. Seems likely to be one for 7f+ and with scope to be higher 70s and perhaps 80+ if he develops well. Brando seems to be as advertised as a medium type of his sire and solidy built. Not that fit here. Ran that way by finding enough of an effort by 2f out to look slightly threatening but then an early fade. Prob ok for a faster 6f test, unlike Gregorio and ok for at least late 70s. Roman De Brut a smaller medium one but solidly built. Looks to have size for late 60s. Not looking a fluent mover here and outpaced before halfway. More of a wait-and-see rather than expecting a S/3TO blossoming. Trainer's record and unproved movement as up-font caveats. Red Stripes the smallest in the group and also with a downside trainer. Might be ok around 60 but could trainer deliver that? Never got started here as if too green to gallop - certainly on this going. |
