GGF from G on Decs. No rain since the previous meeting 7 days ago. Rail on Inner Line. Initial thoughts. Low Cut Affair in leading line on rail from early on and never stopped, hinting at the inside advantage returning with drying ground and rail in (2nd race over 5f & won by the rail runner). Attended by Sparbrook for 3f but that one soon faded and same mild plugging on from Zermintrudee that she showed at WTON in the same race as Sparbrook. That WTON race looked very weak aside fromt he winners and Sparbrook & Zermintrudee's efforts here seem to suggest that view correct. Sparbrook ran better than Zermintrudee at WTON despite finishing behind her with Sparbrook actually getting into the race, despite running wide throughou, and finding some response in the HS. Zermintrudee never got involved and ran around the rail to end up in a very distant second. Alternatively the win for Low Cut Affair, going away and bias assisted or not means a rethink needed over the form level of her debut race at KTNA (note that [Est] published so far are interim until the first 15-20 races are complete & then the Horse, Trainer & Sire pages will begin to be update). Tiggy Wiggy ran away with that race but in what looked just an ok time and chased by what appeared to be small but ready David Evans' fillies who were both below OR70 by some way. But Charlie's Star has finished 2nd at NWBY in a better quality maiden (assisted by her high fitness level) and LCAffair has won this low level race (probably still barely into the OR60s?). Check pictures. Seems likely Tiggy Wiggy's rating needs to go up. Whay the apparent punt on Mylaporyours? Trainer Millman used to get regular early debut wins until 2005 and then seemed to stop preparing them to compete FTO. His son James has suggested the poor FTO runs might have been in part due to his lack of confidence riding 2yos FTO. With Atzeni now riding them regularly are they going to go any different. Or was this a meaningless price shortening in a weak Market where none of the fillies had positive profiles? So a low level and 'anything' could win? Mylaporyours owned by former trainer Nerys Dutfield whose family owns the property the Millmans rent. Mrs Dutfield still hasn't got over her love of a risque name (Lady Dominatirx, and all that). MLOY making some progress down the rail inside the last 2f but completely stopped by Sparbrook rolling onto the rail as she dropped out of the leading line in lane 1 outside LCAffair. Polar Vortex top on profile assisted by her relative purchase expense but did not stand out in the group for size, power nor readiness. Competent run and a volunteer second but added to view of a thin race without any Hannon oe Channon reps. [Update post VP & VRev] Odd set of Hf to Final Positions in the context of the VTLs. Horses making places after Halfway but none making ground versus the Leader/Winner who was the only horse going forward at the finish. One of those races where if you just watch the video, and do not take into account the low Quality of fillies involved, you could convince yourself at least half the field can do better and might be worth following. Lots of greenery, quiet jockeys, hanging and hampering, and "pleasing late progress" (TM Luck). Which means that the question "That's all very well but what does it amount to in worthwhile performance terms" should be added to any feeling a Filly-to-Follow-NTO has been identified. VP shows a mostly small set of fillies, some ill-made, most lacking scope and some poor types. Mid to upper 60s at best and probably more than half 50s & worse. Winner a small, compact but ready one who ran professionally and able to get an easy lead down the rail. Which meant that receiving weight she could win quite well receiving weight but presumably a low 60s filly at best and lacking scope against the Internal Season WFA. Two of the higher priced, and higher weighted fillies in 2nd & 3rd and both running similar races out wide and just plugging on. Zermintrudee ran in 2R but got outpaced and the unbalanced & No Interest. June's Moon & Itsindebag both really small ones and low 50s ab? Mylaporyours a bit bigger than that pair and would have made the first 4 but for being hampered as the pace-pressing Sparbrook got oupaced and then unbalanced and rolled onto her. But, the same Question returns of would making the first 4 mean anything more than "So What?" Frozen Princess another small one, Karluk not put in the race and hanging badly & needs another check. Arousal an odd mix of shapes and as clueless here as her last work video suggested she would be. Hard to see how her physical set-up will 'work. Kidmeforever of some mild interest as perhaps the biggest in the group and green here, but with hints that her attitude wasn't right overall including when causing trouble at the start. Seemed to fade too quickly. Not one to follow but check how she develops. |
