S from GSS on Decs. Danny O'ruairc does an ok breeze. Looks a Medium one, poss a bit smaller, and stronger F than B. Slightly upright in F and HdUp. Rattles along for the first 1.5f going straight down the rail. No obvious variation in pace and just goes 'his pace'. That perhaps because a bit choppy in F and gets tired in last 0.5f. Split The Atom an Irish raider and Shanahan has had regular runners in Britain in 2012-13. STAtom ran in a 6f Maiden at NAAS FTO and race appeared to have a slower pace but run in 70.2s with AO'Brien War Envoy pulling clear. STA toweringly clueless and driven along most of the way and rolling around. Hangs left itowards the last 1F then gets held in a box between two others and hauled back. Some staying on late. Looks medium size and a bit narrow bodied. Interesting race and a very interesting Paddock for anyone to have a go at. All shapes and sizes, different levels of readiness, different amounts of power but visibly different amounts of athleticism to use theat efficiently. A slow pace but wound up before 2F out to mean the prominent racing pair who duelled and finished 1st & 2nd were fading inside the last 0.5f to make the pair of Closers look as if they wer doing more at the finish than they were. A 'Maiden' in name but a very Northern one and overall level below 70 and looking for promise needs a bit of care. Trainer Dods gets all these strong debuts and one thing seems certain is his horses are fit enough to see out the full race distance FTO well enough (not like the Hannons, say, who have the ordinary ones tuned to fade 100yds out). Dragon King his 10th FTO of the season and the 3rd debut win to add to 4 placed 2nd.3rd and only 1 poor debut worse than 5th in bigger fields. But, that fitness FTO seems to go with below average scope to progress. His two other FTO winners were uncompetitive STO and the others have produced only one later win in a weak SWEL event. DKing a smaller medium but neat one in the group and 'unremarkable'. Although not sounding it unremarkable is often a positive in the sense that it means nothing bad is showing up. Equally nothing notably good is either but it probably means a vanilla one that will run to its size and power output levels. DK looks a 60s one who will end up in nurseries and always that 'Dod's regressing' niggle. How the hell did Split The Atom finish 2nd? He looks dradful in PRev. Notably narrow bodied, weak neck, laughably 'up behind' to make him look Dip-backed even if he wouldn't be if he ever levelled up. The poor body shape and angles meaning he is straight legged and a shuffler in the walk. Looking for positives you might say he had a bit of build behind and professional. Inclined to the view he finished 2nd by getting a soft lead and then being tigerish in his efforts and being very fit. But his presence at the finish seems a negative for the form level. The low level of form at the front would make more sense of the 'flying finish' that Danny O'Ruairc seemed to be showing at the finish. A shorter one in Prev but with some length and well built if not that tight. But one you wounder whether he might leak above 70, with the wind behind him. Not an 80+ who was storming home having been green, and been on a tour of the width of the track, late on. Rather take that view than the mindless, and unquantified, "..he must have gone in a lot of notebooks after that.... eyecatcher" stuff. Our Kylie a small and compact one but notable deep and bulky. Excellently turned out by what seems a reliable trainer. But oddly made behind as it they got the wrong width parts down off the shelf. Not showing the extra kick Danny O'R did but plugging on solidly but low 60s? MaJo 2yos can be hard to characterise and a lot of them look the 'same' but in different sizes. Probably a lot of unremarkableness as well. Subversive a bit like Dragon King, neat enough and seems to made from a ful kit-of-parts out of the same box. Subversive a bit smaller perhaps and a bit more build. Perhaps a bit too compact. Ran a bit freely then hanging badly and an early fade. This type usually show what they can actually do STO, good or bad- mid 60s? Sandgate the one you would take home given a choice in most cases. Watch him running alongside STAtom in the replay and he's bigger, wider and more substantial. But, obviously mentally too young in the prelims and needing to improve in nous. Ran much too free in the lead and an ok effort befoe fading after that. The one caveat would be to check whether he reaches out properly when asked for an extra effort. Was the Upright Front shown here a lack of experience or part of his natural movement? But, ok for 70+ and Fahey should be able to win a Northern maiden with him and more scope than DK, for eg. Having made the mistake of turning the sound up for a moment was Weaver really trying to explain away after the race why Autumn Revue had run so poorly after he had picked her out as the best quality? Sound back off by reflex so may never know. But a smaller on and 40s and while a bit better built than STAtom has some of the same set-up issues. Blown away when the 2F out efforts went here as you would expect. As was Shamkhani and his problem seems to be how unathletic he is. He is small and short-backed but built like a square block and ok for his size in pure power terms. But he looks 'muscle bound' and lacking range and reach to his movement. Oh dear. |
